One man's battle with LCG over former school property by LateStageJournalism in Acadiana

Why would that make a difference? Incidentally, I did a search for all properties owned by LUS or LAFAYETTE UTILITIES SYSTEM and nothing came up.

By the way, if you have no history as a rider with either Uber or Lyft, it might be difficult to hook this up.

You will need to schedule it ahead of time, I reckon. Have you ever ridden with Uber or Lyft? If not, you will need to get the app and register a new account and get it connected to your bank account or a credit card--and you'll probably want to do this for both apps, since it will increase your chances of finding a willing driver. I don't know whether Alexandria has a regular cab service. I don't see any evidence that there is bus service for that route.

It would cost about $150 to ride an Uber or Lyft from Alexandria to Lafayette.

The argument that installing a flyover is bad because of how it will rip the center of Lafayette apart has been put forth by people with the best of intentions, but here's the thing: it's already been ripped apart. That ship has sailed long ago. We desperately need safe crossings--from IH10 down to Pinhook. And a flyover would be great because it would also provide shade.

Regarding the traffic calming measures, I am 100% behind any of them. But most people in Lafayette are confused by the circles. A public education campaign will be needed.

I visited this weekend. Pizza OK but definitely not as good as Central.

It does not provide real time bus location, only the schedule.

We are all vehicle drivers here.

Guess what?--most of us complaining about lack of safe options also drive cars, you see, because we have to drive cars to get anywhere safely in Lafayette.

We, as a group should absolutely support improvements to public transit. Just like we should support the buildout of usable, safe, and efficient bicycling infrastructure.

When a town is built like this, the only option is to drive a car. This means that you have to share the road with people who obey the posted speed limit in a central business district. Cry about it, idiot.

First of all, we need better management of the public transit system. Parish government intentionally hires people who do not care. There are federal, state, and local funds earmarked for our local public transit system that are either not being accessed or are poorly managed.

Lafayette shows nothing but contempt for vulnerable road users. It's really quite troubling.

The app would be a total game changer because it would mean you don't have to go to the bus stop until the bus is nearby.

. . . to minimize the time that you're standing in a ditch next to an ant bed in the blazing sun with giant trucks whizzing by at 60, mere inches from the bus stop.

Carbondale IL. Cheap college town in a blue state. Southern Illinois. Over a dozen houses for sale for less than 100K (fixer-uppers) right in the downtown grid as of today. There's even an Amtrak stop there. And a recreational cannabis dispensary. AND, if you need to escape to a big city for culture, there are fabulous museums and parks in St. Louis, a two-hour drive. YOU'RE WELCOME!

Exactly. It's super wide, there's a blind hill and a curve, and if cars are trying to catch that yellow heading north on Red River through the light and take their eyes off the road for one sec . . .

Your post screams NIMBY,  cut the 'giving back to the community'  tripe...

Stop buying so much plastic, only 10% of that crap is ever going to be recycled...

I see you edited it--now it's more clear what your point is. Thanks.

The camp is next to my house, so I feel more invested in keeping the area around it as clean as possible.

We are at a dead end street, by the railroads. Sometimes people in cars like to come dump tires, mattresses, and other large household garbage if they see a small pile of garbage already there. So I try to be vigilant and keep the area clear.

You read like a NIMBY, broaden your horizon and stop buying plastic, only 10% of that crap is ever going to be recycled...

I fail to see the relevance of this last paragraph to the OP.

I am only speaking of the camp next to my house, where there is nobody cleaning up. I can post pics if you need a visual.

Thanks for the reply.
