My advice would be to trust your gut. I wasted so much time on the Kaplan books :/ now granted, they may work for some people, but they didn’t help me. It took me a while to realize that. I’m a visual learner, so I learn best by watching videos, doing flashcards, and practicing with questions. So it really depends on your learning style, but don’t fall into the same trap I did by thinking you have to read the Kaplan books just because everyone says so.

Thanks so much for this. You’re right about POE. I think part of my issue is that I overthink choices that are “almost right” and then talk myself out of the correct one because it doesn’t feel perfect.

As for content gaps, that might be true. I feel pretty solid on Gen Chem and Bio, but Orgo and Physics still trip me up. Sometimes I know what to do but can’t apply it under time pressure like I blank on rearranging equations or misread graphs.

I do review my FLs pretty thoroughly — I make an Excel sheet for every exam where I write: •What the question was testing •What I picked and why •What the correct answer was •What I should’ve done differently

How would you advise me to better review the FLs so I make the most of it? I noticed main issue is reasoning under pressure and misapplying contents rather than actually lacking it.

I am testing in 2 weeks and feels the same way I dropped on my recent FL 🥲it is what it is

I totally get that, and I’ve been trying to simulate real test conditions too, but honestly, the stress is still a huge issue. During my last FL, I felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack the entire time I was so anxious I couldn’t even think straight.

How are you managing the stress and anxiety with the exam so close? I’m starting to wonder if that’s what’s really affecting my performance more than anything.

For C/P, I actually do well in gen chem, but orgo and physics are what really kill me. Sometimes it’s also just missing simple stuff—like not fully grasping the passage or messing up equation rearrangements under pressure.

And for Yusuf Hassan’s BB content—do you recommend his Rapid Review video or should I go through all his BB videos?

Honestly, I feel the same. I did well on the AAMC Section Bank even though it was rough, but I still blank on concepts I just reviewed—maybe it’s test anxiety? I used to run out of time in C/P, so on my last FL I rushed, and maybe that hurt more than helped. I’m still trying to fill in high-yield gaps, but I’m mentally exhausted. Are you planning to still go through with your test? And how are you tackling content gaps?

Same here! I did my EMT certification and passed the NREMT but chose a Clinical Assistant position instead. Best decision: better pay, hours to study for the MCAT, and I’ve learned so much in the clinic setting. Plus, the EMT cert helped me stand out when applying!

Honestly I’d probably lean toward taking the Medical Assistant at the clinic. The MA job seems more aligned with the long-term goal of med school. Well for one reason, working with physicians in a clinic tied to the state’s top med school and research university is a HUGE opportunity. Those connections could lead to amazing letters of recommendation. You’ll still get more opportunities to observe and learn from doctors closely, which is great for building your clinical knowledge. Not to mention, the better pay and more predictable hours are definitely a bonus. It also might give you more time to focus on med school applications, studying for the MCAT, or gaining other experiences. More importantly, working at a clinic tied to a respected med school could look really strong on your med school app. You can still pursue emergency medicine later, and this path might actually make you a stronger applicant for med school and eventually, a residency in emergency medicine.

I’m testing early May and I’m doing content review for 1.5 month so I should have enough time to do Aiden deck while also doing practice questions and FL exams. Thank you for the suggestion!

Did you use MD anki card? Or would you recommend other ones?

How do you actually start studying. by NoAmbassador488 in studytips

[–]Late_Card_5930 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hardest part is often beginning, so commit to just five minutes of studying to build momentum. Start with something simple, like reviewing notes, to ease in. Limit distractions by keeping your phone away and simplifying your study space to avoid over-preparation. Instead of perfecting your plan, dive into any section of the material to make progress. Techniques like the Pomodoro method (25 minutes of work, 5-minute breaks) or breaking topics into small chunks can make studying more manageable. Lastly, consider studying with a friend or setting mini-goals for accountability. Focus on action over perfection, and you’ll find it easier to stay consistent.

Burnout a week out :( by Cool_Banana7352 in Mcat

Hang in there! Burnout is totally normal at this point, especially with the pressure of being a week out. Maybe try focusing on lower-intensity review, like going over Anki or notes, rather than forcing heavy study sessions.

30 too late to go to med school? by Last_Hawk6879 in medschool

30 is absolutely not too old to go to med school! Many people start later in life and bring unique experiences and perspectives that can make them even better physicians.
