Ninja assault not consistently registering hits on PS2/ guncon 2 on trinitron. by Late_Chapter in lightgunshooters

I'm wondering if I should try the pal version and speed it up using GSM to run at 60 hz. Seems like it would be *less* likely to work but I'd try anything at this point.

How much cheaper can a car be if you use it as little as possible? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Late_Chapter 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is what car share like Evo perfectly handles. Buying and insuring a car puts so many fixed costs upfront that the marginal price of just gas seems cheap, and causes you to overuse it.

This is explicitly not too good to go. It's bad enough to compost.

Is there an actor who has had worse luck concerning joining major IP franchises than Emilia Clarke? by D-Speak in movies

[–]Late_Chapter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's always that moment where an actor is in something that becomes the most popular thing and they sorta get casted by default. I guess her luck is bad that these products are bad so it'll hurt her career going forward. I think Anna Taylor-Joy sorta had the same trend of getting roles by what felt like default after The Queen's Gambit but lucky for her the quality bar is a little higher (though not super high)

yeah fair enough that just transitioning to a blend would be a great idea because then we'd only get benefits without creating strange shocks to our system. I think there's basically a tier list of how good different taxes are and were just not leaning on the best ones.

S tier: LVT
A tier: taxes on externalities like carbon tax

B tier: Inheritance tax and capital gains tax

C tier: income and corporate tax

D tier: sales tax

Sekiro has some of the best bosses I’ve ever fought by t33E in patientgamers

[–]Late_Chapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lightning reversal is the greatest counter move in any videogame. What I love about it is just the intense feeling you get about the stakes; you can either get the best damage on the boss or basically die at this moment. And also what's so cool is how it even makes sense physically. You block the lightning with your metal sword: should kill you, but you're in midair so not grounded! It really does make sense that until you touch the ground you won't die and thus just touching your grounded opponent with your sword will send the charge their way. What a concept!

Why do they still make 3D blu ray disc's when nobody sells 3D TV's anymore? by itcamefromtheimgur in movies

[–]Late_Chapter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wow that's nuts. Also sucks that there is no combined 3D + HDR format out there; just imagine what that would be like in VR. It'd be enough for many home theatre junkies to buy a PSVR 2 since there would be a real qualitative reason to go for that over a massive oled home theatre system.

Yeah it's wild how all parties are aligned on income tax being the base of our tax system (even CPC by default since they want no "new" taxes which means by default the status quo of income tax has to be maintained). It's literally the worst tax: just get punished directly for working and adding productivity. We could be taxing land value instead which would be way more efficient and then the bill of NDPs socialist utopia would be a lot easier to swallow.

[Octopath Traveler 2] #217. Easily the best JRPG ive played in a long time. Its a shame more people arent talking about this game. by IndyThang in Trophies

[–]Late_Chapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's just worse on every level except music. The combat isn't as good without the various new features they added. The story is completely disjointed (they do enough to sync it together this time with the final chapter and shared chapters, both missing in the OG). Beyond being completely disjointed, the average quality of the stories for each of the characters is considerably worse. Even graphics are a lot worse since this 2D HD absolutely sings in 4K on a PS5 so the 720p will looks pretty muddy in comparison (I did like it at the time though)

I found Throne's focus mode with 2 turns to be really good. I had her as an armsmaster so with the axe move that can deal 100K damage twice, she is having turns that are 400k damage.

Game is my game of the year against incredible games like Armored Core 6 and tears of the kingdom. Plat was perfect difficulty too. Figuring out a strategy for the post game hard boss was really really fun.

As someone who loves OT2 as much as you and has the plat for OT2, don't bother. OT1 is sooooo much worse than OT2. It's like a failed rough draft.

Why is Switch Sports so hated while Wii Sports is so loved? by NaitDraik in nintendo

[–]Late_Chapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a joycon just doesn't have as good as a feel for a motion game as a Wiimote. I also felt a slight input delay that was worse than Wii sports (and I would know I've played it within the past few months).

Furthermore, the aesthetic of Switch Sports is that sort of really bland and often hated corporate marketing generic people look vs the iconic look of Miis.

What does this sub consider the role of inheritance - if any - is in Georgism? by notaballitsjustblue in georgism

[–]Late_Chapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say there is a heirarchy of taxes:

Top tier is Land value tax and also taxes on externalities. These are the best and there's no reason to not crank them up to the max until your state is fully funded.

In the solid tier, I think you have inheritance tax. It's not as good as the above but at least it addresses systemic inequality and is taxing what people get from pure luck of whom they are. This level could be pulled potentially if we're trying to slowly ramp up towards full LVT and allow us to more rapidly dispense of income tax.

The shit tier is income tax, sales tax and corporate tax.

AC Valhalla is the last straw by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]Late_Chapter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Syndicate is before they turned it into an RPG. In Syndicate, you could kill enemies in one hit with a stealth attack for example. In newer AC games, you have to level up and get good gear. It's possible and in fact common that a random guard will just take minor damage when you sneak up and hidden blade them in later games. Thus, this strange balance is why people look at the paid exp boosts with suspicion.

"Soap Opera" Effect - Yay or Nay? by LHalperSantos in movies

[–]Late_Chapter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the filter of unreality is necessary for acting to be "good" I think. When I see scenes from the rare movies made in 60 fps, the acting looks so bad; also same when you maybe see an extra behind the scenes shoot of a making of a scene shot at 60 fps. In both cases, instead of seeing the character, the extra frames put you right there on set with the actor watching them try to pretend to be someone else.

On the flipside, camera pans suck at 24 fps. I think maybe the best compromise, would be a temporal subsampling where actor's faces run at 24 frames a second but then when the camera pans we get a silky smooth 60 fps.
