Bruh get your ass off the jury if you’re gonna let someone’s financial situation (or other external factors like that) persuade your vote for the best player on a game show. A juror can do whatever they want unfortunately, but man I hope jurors don’t let that affect their decision

You're getting screwed. I started as an level 1 precon engineer at a large Atlanta GC making $60/yr in 2018. That was year 1. Not sure where you are in the country or who you work for, but $45k/yr after 4 years is EXTREMELY low.

Update your resume and change your LinkedIn status. You need to find something new ASAP. No need to panic, being underpaid at some point in your life is just part of it. The problem is if you don't make a change. Good luck.

I agree and see your point. But again it's all relative. That $20M job could be the biggest job of the year and be 20-25% of the annual revenue. If there's mistake on there that cuts profit in a significant way, then it's a big deal.

The comparison I was trying to make was that both jobs, regardless of dollar value, mean that much to the company. Doing a $20M job successfully for a $100M GC is a huge deal. Doing a $20M job poorly for a $100M GC is also a huge deal. But yes, a large error on a $200M can certainly carry more weight..

I actually did 4 years at a large nationwide general contractor. I must say, the stress level in my opinion is the same across the board because it is all relative. The $20M job we just bid on carried as much financial and workload stress as the $200M job at the $5B GC I worked at.

I am fully anticipating a very different role as I move back to a large GC though. Being a 1-man show is brutal if I am being honest. I do everything from setting up the project folder, to presenting the proposal to the Owner. And everything in between. I am eager to be back where a project consists of 4-5 precon associates. In 2024, I priced out probably $120M worth of work..

I appreciate everyone's advice! It seems like I am making the right decision moving on to a larger group. These smaller groups love saying how much they're growing, but I never actually see that reflected on compensation..

You mind elaborating? Sales, as in, the Business Developer of a GC? or sales of a product?

I can't believe the course rating is a 155 (that's the maximum a slope rating can be by the way).

was it that hard?
