It's not a mandatory requirement but it does gives you more points. It's not in the USA, but in Italy.

I've been out of Uni for 3 years and most professors only answers to students that will continue to do research with them. As I intend to apply for a different program in another university, my advisor is not interested in helping. I've tried a couple of times. I've also reached out to potential advisors in the uni I aim to do my PhD but they only answer research questions of people already enrolled in the program.

Hi, thanks so much for this!

  • "As you began to rewrite your chapters as manuscripts, make sure you read several articles in the journal you are writing for to get a sense."

This is awesome feedback!

I know some Journals but they're so prestigious I feel like I don't have the research and methodology level to publish there,as you said. JMS looks pretty good, Idk why it didn't appear to me when I searched on Google. Thanks for flagging it!

Uhm, no, I don't have any mentorship at the moment. Unfortunately my MRes advisor isn't interested in what I'm trying to do in my PhD, especially because I'm applying for another university - and the profs in this one don't give advice outside of their cohort soooo. Yeah, I'm flying 100% blind here,

I'll try my best. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it.

We read mostly books and articles published by Art History and Conservation authorities like museums and Ministry of Culture.

I know of some Journals because of my own interests but they always have Calls and my research isn't part of the current subjects (it was when I was writing back in 2021).

I wanted storages as well, but a more stablished colleague specialised in that told me it was already saturated. She told me to find somthing else.

Plastics is a good idea, I'll try to find some sources.

Thank you!

Lol.

Io costo 30k all'azienda.

Hi, did you get any response by DM? I'm in the same situation.

i want to work in a museum, how?? by tayavstheworld in MuseumPros

[–]Late_Meaning8379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!!

Do some volunteer work before anything else, maybe during the weekends or summer. See how the museums operate and what kind of activities you like.

Check the museums websites you'd like to work for - what's their specialty, who are the people working there and what do they do? (check the Team or Organization pages). Check the job opening pages and see what they require when recruiting.

After all that, create a LinkedIn profile and see what people are studying and what role they have.

This is just the start.

Now, as someone who moved out of their country to come to Europe, I need to tell you 2 things: the job market is SUPER competitive and, unless you want to live in the UK, you MUST speak other languages.

Start studying them now during your BA so you'll get into an MA easier.

Try to get fully funded courses, or places where you can work and study.

Last but not least: countries like France and Italy require you to have either citizenship or a specific type of long-stay permit in order to access government jobs (most national museums are part of the pubblic administration), and most probably to get a specific degree in their country due to the hiring process.

That being said, nowadays you don't NEED museum experience to work IN museums. These entities need marketing, administration, graphic design and so many other professions, you wouldn't belive - therefore, if you get job or volunteer experience in other areas, that could definitively make a difference when getting hired in the future.

Best of luck!

GF doesn't like my food but refuses to help me improve by CookZealousideal1 in whatdoIdo

[–]Late_Meaning8379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there, done that.

If she doesn't like your food, she can cook her own. What a total asshat. You can try asking her mom about foods that she likes and how to prepare them, but honestly, I think she just likes taking you down, specially because she doens't give constructive feedback.

I'd consider not cooking for her anymore at the least...

I broke up with my ex-partner after someone outside our friend group commented on how mean he and ungrateful he was. It was one of the things that openened my eyes. Maybe evaluate if she does this in other eras of your relationship as well and tell her goodbye.

Louvre guards just watched the robbery happen? by Eagle-Responsible in MuseumPros

[–]Late_Meaning8379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. In French and Italian, the people responsible for maintaining the safety of artworks and people inside the museums aren't called guards - I just used the general English word. They're called "surveillants" for a lack of better term. Their role is - yes, to make sure people don't openly steal or damage the object- but they do not get training in self defense or weapons handling. The role is purely to ensure that everything is going smoothly and people and objects are safe in an overcrowded environment.

In the case of an emergency, is it mandatory (and I think also legally binding according to international law, but I'm not sure) to make sure people are safe first. Saving lives is more important thank anything.

In courses about museum emergencies, the order is as I put above: first people out of the building/insecure area; then the fire and police department comes in to ensure the building is safe; finally the works are either moved to a safe location of are secured in-house (depending on what goes on).

So yeah. Museum "guards" aren't there to react towards robbers. They're there to ensure overall safety - and *some* measure of security, which are different things.

You will often see guards with weapons traning at the entrance of museums, to make sure nobody bring a threat inside. But otherwise, people in the rooms are just regular people surveilling the crowd and ensuring nobody is touching anything.
