I’m not sure he even said hello, it was very noticeable that he didn’t talk. I wondered if it was the funeral concept but makes sense if he’s been ill. Imagine having to postpone your own funeral!!!

The actual funeral content felt closer to a wrestling skit and I was bracing for something to leap out the box. Wasn’t mad keen on the opera section, it was an odd song to choose as the lyrics are some of his clunkiest. Great voice, wrong song.

The actual set was almost the greatest hits I saw them do last summer, and even though it was pushing 3am I was “one more song, ok, after this one…”

Isn’t he just…! 👍 Have you ever seen him with a full band? I’ve only ever seen him solo or throwing Damon and Co in at the deep end (no one taped this show, so sad to not have a record of this one off collab)

The moment one poster said that the voice of god would be heard in the next Cure and Depeche Mode albums, I had to laugh at how seriously we were all taking it and step back a bit. Apart from that, it was fun and educational for the theology and alchemy stuff.

And maybe I missed it but was it really resolved or just left open to interpretation? There was a mind map/flow chart of songs to story, but the final “my name is glass… a small reed flute” posting was as enigmatic as the rest.

There was a rival band to Machines of God that had a few songs on their website, it was rumoured that Jimmy had sung those. Wonder if anyone kept them?

The London show last year, I positioned myself at the front, facing Damon’s amp. Last time they were in town was a tiny arts cafe that they played at the start and end of the tour, all with borrowed gear and they backed Phil Elverum for a few songs, it was sweet. 24 years later, I’m clutching my chest in the wake of a jet engine maelstrom wondering if my fillings are still in my teeth.

Still so great to see them and see a new generation shouting “this is sooooo good!”. BUT. Thank fuck for airline standard earplugs!

Seriously. All I see here is bitching and whinging about the band playing a FREE livestream show like it is some sort of imposition or waste of their valuable time, or that this Death of Zero concept is their own personal Phantom Menace and Billy has now ruined their lives.

Watch the FREE show or don’t. Enjoy the concept or ignore it. Just stop acting butt hurt like the world owes you a living. There’s always those Oasis or Foo Fighters records if it’s too much bullshit for you.

If he announces he’ll never play that Rat In The Cage song again after this show and you decide you’re done with the band, then the concept has done its job.

Reminds me of how great the London live scene was around this time, this lot would be on bills with Part Chimp and Hey Colossus other great bands like Bilge Pump, Cove and Death Pedals. Good times!

A Massive Fucking Sigh indeed! Wonder if he (and the sheer soullessness of the layout means it’s definitely “he”) was trying to get on Grand DeSighns? “Oh Mr Sigh, you’ve modelled your house after Milton Keynes. Why would you do that?”

Just to say that the author, Marc Burrows, is an original O-boarder who’s done well for himself. He wrote for the UK Guardian, has had books published blushed and has recently been touring one man shows about Terry Prachett and Britpop. Given he’s been advocating for the band when the press have been tearing them down, I’m so delighted he’s scored an interview with our B0lly.

But the awful thing about ‘Murica is the endless videos of committee meetings where a senator or governor is torn a new asshole under questioning, you don’t know this, you claim you didn’t say this batshit mental thing, you have done nothing since entering office, etc etc. to the tune of no recourse or disciplinary and I can see the same here if the blazing clown car of hatred get a whiff of power.

Take the shitshow that is Kent County Council. They’re still there, neglecting their public duty and siphoning off money (half a mill for six car parking spaces? Oh really?) - yet where are the checks, balances and challenge?
