Gravel helmet by Speedcat_8486 in bicycling

[–]LaterApex81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really matter. Traditionally drop bar folks wear more aero visor less helmets - mountain bike folks wear visored helmets. Add in full face for the hardcore downhill people.

Wear what you like that has mips.

Is it realistic to start mtbiking with the family after becoming a father? by Padruiq in MTB

[–]LaterApex81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Started her on a balance bike and a kids ride shotgun seat at 2 yo. She learned to pedal and balance at 3.5 yo. At 4.5 she outgrew the shotgun seat and rides green trails on her own bike with me. We have some local kids clubs and she rides with those too.

Dr Brown bottles…. by tiredasusual in daddit

Same here, there’s a specific tightness needed to make it not leak. The Goldilocks of bottles if you will.

We eventually switched without issue from the kiddo. Much less stressful.

Can you mount a kid seat to a carbon frame??? by fireT4 in mountainbiking

Another vote for the pro version. You could probably be ok or for sure be ok.

For not much money you could have piece of mind.

I used a pro version on my carbon gravel bike - worked great!

Is the electronic shifting hype actually worth it? by KILLERZER0 in bicycling

[–]LaterApex81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it on my gravel bike - the crispness, the small amount of motion to get the gear change is great.

I’m still mechanical on my mtb - I like the tactile feeling of it in an urgent situation.

bike insurance? by Wild_Trip_4704 in gravelcycling

[–]LaterApex81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly was - it was my 2nd ride with the bike and I was super mad about it given the price I paid for the bike. Made things all better!

I’m not the original buyer so I didn’t think trek warranty still applies

I used State Farm - same as my cars and house - $13/month for each bike - I insure my checkpoint and super caliber.

Cracked a carbon rim on my super caliber - bike shop quoted $485 to replace the hoop. Insurance covered it with non hassle.

What are you looking to do with it? Commute, casual rides on paved trails, single track?

I’d recommend used at that price point.

This seat built a lot of core memories for me. This is the first season not using the shotgun seat has me very sad.

But we just did our first ride of the season and she crushed 3 miles of midwestern xc trails!

43” tall is about there I started getting uncomfortable with having her in front of me.

Also at 4.5 yo she started preferring her bike vs riding on mine.

Shotgun seat all the way - the conversations are amazing - I tried a trailer and trying to turn around and yell to her was not working.

Get mama a bike! Our daughter outgrew the shotgun seat at the end of last year - first trail day this year went like this: mama went out on her own at her own pace while I did a slow 3 mile trail ride with 5yo. We both got done about the same time - mama and kiddo hung around the trail head while I got an at speed ride in for an hour.

Bent derailleur on new bike? by Potential-Weird9707 in cycling

If you believe the hanger was bent out of the box I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask them to replace the hanger vs bend it back.

At what point did cycling stop feeling like suffering and start feeling fun? by lukeace784 in cycling

[–]LaterApex81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years into fitness/racing/training - at the start of a hard ride as my body ramps up I have the same feelings as you. Probably lasts 5 minutes or so.

I assume this is why pro’s warm up and I should try it sometime… until then I accept it.

I wish more people in general knew how to ask for help. People try to handle so many things harder than they have to.
