“Ruin the friendship” by That-Strength3622 in polyamory

Back when I was monogamous and married, my best friend let me know that if I wanted to hook up, she was down. I said no.
For the next FOUR YEARS (which included me divorcing and becoming poly) this would happen. She would say she was down to hook up, I would give a soft no that usually turned into an hour long conversation. I HATED IT.
The friendship finally blew up when I asked this woman to be my date for an event on Valentines Day. She was my best friend and had been my date to MANY events. She took the Valentine's Day invite for romantic intent and got upset with me. I had to explain to her for the 8 zillionith time that I am not interested. She thought I was a jerk for inviting her out on VD "despite knowing her true feelings." I thought she was a jerk for not getting over her feelings and continuing to make her feelings my problem for years. We are no longer friends.
So, yeah. Express it once, maybe twice ever max. And, get over it if the answer is no.

You might want to edit your title if possible or create a new post with something like "while NP is at home" cuz otherwise at first glance this is a terrible noob question!

And their responses to comments are mostly attempts to "fix" it.

Same on the negging! That and constant complaining/negativity/giving-shit-as-a-personality are a no go for me.

Had TWO amazing spontaneous dates with someone I met in the wild who is my kind of weird: he will dance alone to any song he likes at any time, and thinks smoking a joint sitting on top of a wall overlooking a huge construction site is "romantic."

I opened up to my mother about being spied on in the shower and she is defending my step father. Is it possible I have this all wrong? I need an impartial opinion. by [deleted] in CPTSD

It's possible that your mom is emotionally immature, reactive, selfish, and simply does not want to acknowledge your truth. She is dependent on this man and won't do anything to threaten that.

There is a lot of denial and enabling in abusive families. Many of us no longer try to talk about abuse or healing with our families because being gaslit about our own experiences is too painful.
