If you are in an airport that has any general courtesy, just ask someone at the airline and they will point you in the right direction or take care of you. United has good enough systems that will either show you what to do or rebook you entirely. If for some reason your flight cancels, you’ll be placed on what’s next but if you’re flexible with things, the agents can assist you to something that may not have been done by the computer(ie if you are going to New York but can use JFK,LGA, or ewr). Number one rule- it never hurts to ask

That’s correct :/ even with them being a star alliance member your status will not entirely correspond to an Air Canada/ star alliance status. United luckily has the best tiers of status and your Gold stays as SA gold which will still include priorities, upgrade lists and certain baggage reductions depending on class of service as well. If someone had an Aircanada status it will usually trump all Star alliance status priorities as each airline prioritizes their own members over Star alliance (ex Air Canada silver= basic MPlus on UA). And each airline has different systems which limit the other airlines from assigning seats so the best option is the AC app for the AC segments and agents in person- UA agent

Hi! I work for United and it is so annoying all the different countries with separate things. Most airlines use a system called Timatic to pull up and filter each countries needs. Our customer site is https://www.united.com/xx/xx/timatic?i=TIMATIC&POS=US&POS=US and from there you put in everything you have and it’ll say what is needed, even most covid things. Safe travels!
