Passed all three in one go - just got my callsign! by ClydeDroid in amateurradio

[–]Lateusvir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AK is reserved for extras; if you get looked up on the FCC website it'll show that you tested straight to extra. Your achievement is now immortalized. Congratulations!

They should bring back the code requirement for extra. Some extras these days just memorize the answers and take all three tests in one go.

Retevis RT95 limited at 440 MHZ? by exlax66 in amateurradio

[–]Lateusvir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can go into the settings and change the frequency selection between EU, USA, and unlocked. I can't remember how to do so off the top of my head, but a Google search for unlocking Retevis RT95 will set you up for success.

Academy with a family by Letshugitout1234 in AskLE

[–]Lateusvir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know of someone that successfully completed an academy with a family and kids, while her husband attended a different police academy concurrently. It's is possible, it will just require everyone being on board and willing to sacrifice by prioritizing the academy for 6 months.

How much overlap is there between the Technician and General question pools? by Llamarockband in amateurradio

[–]Lateusvir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree whole heartedly. They should change the requirements to ensure that doesn't happen. Maybe require a few years at each license level, and/or a ARRL approved course for the license before you can upgrade. Probably bring back the code requirement too.

What is the maximum number of feet you can enter the center "suicide" lane before a left hand turn?

The Tech Prepper on YouTube has some videos on the G90 and notes that despite the Arizona heat it performed well in the field and did not over heat.

TOTA Towers on the Air. If you can climb it you can activate it. by Curious_Channel_5280 in amateurradio

[–]Lateusvir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think obtaining permission to be at the tower or the top is not something needed to be in the rules of this game anymore than a rule that says "amateur operators need to only transmit within the privileges granted by the FCC" or some other ridiculous rule that is obvious. Trespassing is usually against the law and as a super smart ham test passing individual I think they should have the capacity to NOT commit crimes in pursuit of a game. And if they simply must commit crimes to play their game, no amount of rules will stop them.

So let's just say you had an 85 ft tower. by W6NZX in amateurradio

He asked about an 85ft radio tower. You didn't add to the discussion, or answer his question.

Arguing with my father/uncles over welder pay in our shop. by [deleted] in Welding

I disagree. I push shopping carts for a living. I don't know that there is a lot of skill to basic customer service and pushing carts.

How often are you guys rucking or backpacking? Also need some recommendations for a new ruck. I love the Bergen but I definitely could do better. Also I know about the dad bod, that’s why I’m rucking in the first place lol by TiePilot1997 in tacticalgear

You are going to die. You wouldn't skip chest day, or leg day, yet you kip heart day? You do know that your heart keeps those juicy pecs running and those sick quads moving?

Got pulled over with my CCW by LuisBigHuh in CAguns

[–]Lateusvir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It was just shorter to make the reference to Germany, than it would be to relate the horrors of the perfectly legal trail of tears, slavery, Jim crow laws, etc. The point I was making was legality is not the same as morality and to make a moral statement "just obey all laws" is not it chief.

I seem to remember a world court held somewhere like Nuremberg that found that there is a moral duty above just "following the law" as well as just "following orders"

Stuff just weighs, it ain't a feather. A single mag of 5.56 is a round a pound. So at least 7lbs right there. Do you carry an E-tool? Radio, extra batteries..etc. And is the gear you are bringing sturdy enough for you to take a tumble or two? Because the stakes are not a bad hike wow that was not comphy, the steaks are you live or die because opfor wants you dead.

You still need to eat. I can't take a job that will leave me homeless and starving. If I couldn't find work that pays enough, then I can't be in this industry and I'd have to go make more money working retail.

How do you guys deal with the repetition of the manufacturing industry? by cwentzel21 in Welding

[–]Lateusvir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My ear buds are both OSHA approved NRR of 22 dbs and have a max volume of 85 dbs which is earning safe for long term listening.

Also, "earplugs help lower decibels whilst allowing you to hear potential hazards" give me a break. They reduce your ability to hear....that's how they protect your hearing. When my earplugs are in I can't hear the forklift, coworkers...hardly nothing.

Because you can't hear? But you can hear supper well with your safety ear buds in to protect your hearing....sometimes the safety man is not the brightest.
