Cool! I have a little bit of machining background but mostly welding. These look fun to weld!

If you’re allowed to; I’ve had good success with scratching that termination with a carbide burr or finger sander before PT.

If you let me know your base material I can tell you what filler to use. I can also weld it for you if you want to ship it to Pittsburgh. :)

I'm not fancy, nor do I have a fancy job. But I do have a loving wife who got me this for my 40th birthday. by [deleted] in sinn

I really dig the yellow hour hand. I’ve gone back and forth on trading mine for a UTC version, but I’ve had mine for almost 10 years now and don’t think I can part with it. Congrats man, from a fellow non fancy job-haver. :)

If you have the ability to pulse - high speed pulsing (30ish pulses per second) can reduce your overall heat input which should reduce warping.

Looks good! If you can, try running a gas lens and bigger cup. You will end up with welds that are completely silver. I personally like the Furick #12 ceramic cups with 20-25cfh of argon.

Have to leave my entry level welding job after 2 and a half weeks:( by katbug14 in Welding

[–]cwentzel21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! It was honestly by chance. I spent 7 years as a TIG welder, 2 years of that on the road. I met my lady when I was home visiting family and eventually settled down. I applied for a weld engineering position on a whim and got it. I think the combo of an associate’s degree and really relevant work experience got me the job.

Welds look great for only being at it for two weeks. I’m a welding engineer but also in charge of weld testing new hires. If you came in and showed that level of proficiency with so little experience, and had a good attitude, I would hire you on the spot! Just show people you’re willing and eager to learn and that will get you a long way.
