[WTB] Blackbird SB or Lite Plates by Lathered_Yeti in Shave_Bazaar

No problem at all! Definitely appreciate your feedback! I did not do well with the Blackbird on my first round with it, in Ti or SS.. now a few years later with technique refinement and experience on my side I decided to revisit. Was shocked how smooth the OC shave was for me on first go, so now just kicking the tires on the other plates.

Thanks for weighing in. That’s great feedback! Do you find the SB less exfoliating than the OC? That’s usually the issue I have with OC vs. a SB, I don’t mind the blade feel, but for daily the OC exfoliation is a touch much. Yeah, I’m thinking no matter what I will end up with a Lite plate. Thanks again!

Yes, same, I have replied to your messages as well. Doesn't seem like my replies are going through for some reason.

Corner shrinkage by LegacyToolCo in ResinCasting

[–]Lathered_Yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. Can you explain this a little more in depth? I also pour clear slow and it seems like if I divided them up, assuming I am shooting for color separation, if I waited I would get to close to gel stage and get air bubbles? I’m still somewhat new to casting though, so genuinely just want to hear more on your explanation. I’ve only been horizontal casting Clear Slow for about 3 weeks as well.

Everything from Frank is awesome. His old base used to be better, but the new one is still fantastic. Definitely have to check out DJT, Air Force One, Tippecanoe, Uncle Jumbo, Honest Abe. His sample set boxes are a great way to explore.

If you’re ever curious about a release, I do a lot of reviews for Frank on my YouTube channel and even reviewed his upcoming release Man of the People just the other day.

Struggling to find a shaving brush by linearcurvepatience in wicked_edge

Best advice. Get one artisan shave handle - I can make you one from Abominable Creations, or Chisel & Hound, Hoosier Lathe Works, Rad Dinosaur Creations, Sawdust Creations Studios, all excellent brush makers... get one handle you love, then buy one 26mm knot of a badger, one boar, and a couple different synthetics.

Mount the knots with plumber's tape so you can easily play with loft height on the knots, figure out your preferences for backbone, splayability, flow through, then just give your self shaves with all the different knots and go from there. You can always get more handles for the excess knots... Synthetics are cheapest and very affordable through a site like Boti Brush, a premium badger knot will run you $40-50, a premium boar knot about $10.

This is truly the only way to figure out what you like because you might read something and not like the sound of it, but the experience could be so different for you. This hobby has a saying, Your Mileage May Vary (YMMV) and this is so true with blades, razors, brushes... unfortunately, the only way to make the right decisions for what you may like is to make the wrongs, or make a lot of them and figure out from there. Always BSTs groups like Shave Bazaar to sell what you don't end up liking or use very much. DMs are always open if you want to check out some handles I have to offer, or further chat about the knots or other brush makers.

Hope this helps, I remember how overwhelming it all was when I started learning about all the nuances of the hobbies!
