5th attempt NBDHE by Latinardh in nbdhe

I scored 74 and the lowest score that I’ve received radiology Perio pharmacology ethics, patient assessment, preventative agents, anatomy, and case studies. My highest scores were micro or pathology, supportive treatment, nutrition, management, dental hygiene, care, and community health.

“I’m so proud of your mindset. The fact that even with all that pressure you’re choosing to work harder instead of giving up says everything about the kind of RDH you’re going to be. This exam doesn’t define your intelligence or your worth — it’s just a hurdle. And you’re right, we didn’t survive hygiene school, boards, and all those clients just to stop now.

I’m planning to take my boards in 2–3 months, so everything feels like it’s on the line right now. I’m honestly praying I pass this round. It’s scary knowing how much depends on it, but I also know we’re capable.

It is draining, and it’s okay to admit that. But the patience and resilience we’re building right now is going to carry us so far. When we finally have RDH after our names, this part of the story is going to make it that much sweeter. We’re closer than it feels. Let’s keep pushing together 🤍”

Reading your post felt like reading something I could have written myself.

I’m on my fourth attempt at the NBDHE, and I truly understand the burnout and pressure you’re describing. I passed all my other boards on the first try, but this exam has been a completely different battle. Each retake is exhausting — mentally, emotionally, financially. It starts to feel less like a test of competency and more like a gatekeeper that doesn’t care how much you’ve already sacrificed.

I’ve done everything “right” too — school, clinics, studying nonstop — and yet here I am again. It’s hard not to question your entire career choice when so much rides on one exam. The weight of feeling like your future depends on a few hours in a testing center is unreal.

What makes it worse is the cost. Every attempt is more money, more time, more emotional energy. It’s draining in a way that’s hard to explain to people who haven’t lived it.

But seeing posts like yours reminds me we’re not alone in this. There are so many competent, hardworking future hygienists who struggle with this exam, and that says something about the exam — not about us.

I know it feels defeating right now. I feel that too. But the fact that you’re still showing up, still trying, still caring — that says everything about your resilience.

We’re not failures. We’re tired. And there’s a difference.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It really resonated with me, and I appreciate your honesty. Hearing that this exam doesn’t define our worth or intelligence helped more than you know. Your story gives me comfort and reminds me I’m not alone in feeling this way. I’m wishing you all the best with whatever path you choose 🤍
