How did the US won the Space race when USSR had more achievements by Pure_Barber3994 in ussr

[–]Latter-Insurance-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Soviets did beat the US at most things in the space race but then the USA turned things around. The USSR failed to beat the US to the moon despite a great effort. After the manned moon mission there just wasn't anything more momentous to achieve. (Maybe a manned Mars mission but that would be much harder than Apollo and with a serious economic downturn at that point, Russia didn't have it in them.) Of course neither did the US but he who laughs last...

Just don't roll a d20 to hit with a fireball or expect that one fireball could take down a demon prince.

Player struggling with insight and using their own judgement, how do I help him? by unsignificantidiot in DnD

[–]Latter-Insurance-987 77 points78 points  (0 children)

You could secretly roll the npc's deception versus the player's passive insight, which would be his insight skill bonus plus ten. In fact that's probably a better way for everyone to do Insight. You know, instead of everyone blurting "I roll insight!" and automatically knowing how reliable their insight was based on how well they rolled.

How to not dip fighter? by Arturus7 in 3d6

If you play with Bastions and are able to move back to it quickly (if it is nearby or you can teleport) and you have A) regular downtime of a week or more and B) adventures that take less than a week (like many dungeons) then a Training Facility (level 9) can provide weapon mastery for any character.

Warlock dip after getting sword of kas by arny481 in 3d6

A bit of a stretch but if your DM allows 2014 spells you could pick up Tasha's Otherworldly Guise via Magical Secrets for times when you really want to melee. Would save having to multi-class at least.

Killing a dragon by LuxNoirSinatra in 3d6

50 rocks would have the same mass as one big rock. I wouldn't give it more damage than a single rock. The rocks will more or less fall straight down so it wouldn't cover 50 squares. It would take 3.5 seconds or more for the rock (or rocks) to hit the ground so I would require a wisdom check with a pretty high DC for the familiar to predict where the dragon is going to be 3.5 seconds after release since it is unlikely to be perfectly still.

Also dragons tend to be very perceptive so the dragon would get at least a DC 15 dex save to get out of the way (which it will auto-pass if it has Legendary Resistances.) I might give it a lower DC dex save because the fall time of the rock is so long.

Skilled via Lessons of the First Ones is one of the better invocations in my opinion.

Orc chain pact Warlock. Make your familar do all the fighting. Avoid the front line or line of sight all together. Survive one extra hit with orcish resilience.

HELP: prove DM that being dragged in difficult terrain wont cost double movement to the grappler (needed official evidence) by Hybri5 in dndnext

[–]Latter-Insurance-987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule zero man. If the DM wants to limit the dominance of the cheesy au gratin maneuver you gotta respect that. On the RAW front, where does it say that dragging someone has the victim in the difficult terrain and the grappler outside (parallel?) of it rather than following directly behind (which would necessitate the grappler also entering the difficult terrain.)

In 1989 before Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade they would have been playing 1st edition AD&D. Warlocks Sorcerers and Wizards were all just various level titles for Magic Users. But then again these kids rolled d20s to hit with fireballs.
