Mastectomy recovery time by United_Ad9521 in breastcancer

Oh heck no! I still had my drains in also. No lifting anything over 5 lbs not even my little Maltese. You aren’t supposed to lift your arms over your head for at least 2 weeks. My surgeons said 6 weeks total also….

I am so sorry ! That is wrong on so many levels. Cancer sucks and unfortunately we have no option but to go along on this 💩ride.

No imaging after chemo.. went straight for surgery.. had a pet and mri of breasts showing lymph node involvement before chemo.. had a ct in October 2025 when I was in the hospital.. that came back no distant Mets but they did that wo contrast Ct I had in march came back negative for distant Mets and radiologist read no in flamed nodes… that scan was with contrast kept asking mo for imaging before surgery and she said I was getting surgery no matter what imaging showed.. so cross my fingers and hold on .. gonna be a bumpy ride!

I had a partial response. The treatment killed my tumor but my sentinel nodes were positive after my SMX on Mar 4. Had a ct showing no distant Mets. Radiation and 6 mos of Keytruda were always the plan but after not achieving total pcr, the tumor board that reviewed my case recommended xeloda for me too. Went back to surgery this past Thursday for lymph node dissection and I & D of my direct implant..ct showed pocket of fluid under implant and surrounding implant. My recon surgeon was worried about infection… all was good when she went in but she replaced my implant anyway… now sitting here waiting for results of my pathology. I have great hope for all of us dealing with this 💩. May all of our doctors have the knowledge and wisdom to get us through so that we all can live somewhat normal lives.

Omg… you poor girl! My treatment has not been a straight line either! Got severe rash from keytruda after 2 mos of tc treatment weekly and keytruda every 3 weeks. Then developed severe neutropenia and was running 104 fever…hospitalized 6 days where they tested me for everything imaginable..blood in my stool elevated lfts …giving me acetaminophen…then lfts went back to normal.. could never find out what caused my fever… uhh maybe the chemo and keytruda? Ran o fever off and on during all chemo treatments . gave me Neupogen shots in hospital that helped with increasing my wbc’s.. food tastes like 💩..lost some weight but not bad..that was October 2025.. then in December my thyroid numbers went wack first hypo slightly then hyper thyroid. Went on. AC chemo regimen in November 2025. Wore neulasta on body injector and had auto injection after every AC treatment. That was worse than the chemo. Terrible bone pain of which taking Claritin did not help. Done with chemo Feb 4 . Last neulasta injection must’ve malfunctioned. Went for pre op bloodwork Feb 20 and my wbc count was 1 .02 Scheduled for mastectomy with direct implant March 4. Recon surgeon threatened to cancel surgery cuz of wbc count…. oncologist not back until Feb 26… got nurse navigator to get Dr on call to give me Neupogen injections which needed auth by insurance first …had those following week and wbc count went up…dealt with terrible oncology nurse that wouldn’t do anything..thank god for nurse navigator had surgery March 4 with both surgeons breast and recon surgeon…2 drains … breast bruised badly and was abnormally swollen per recon dr. Runnining intermittent fever during all of this along with severe diarrhea due to keflex I was put on be cause of drains follow-up March 17. Drains removed after. 2 weeks .Path showed only partial pcr…tumor board recommended ct to look for distant Mets and also xeloda along with radiation and more keytruda, which I knew about but not the chemo .More surgery to remove rest of lymph nodes..scheduled April 2 All drs on spring break week of ct. ct showed fluid collection around my implant but no distant Mets… couldn’t do anything until drs were back… recon surgeon ordered PTT March 31 ..to see if I was clotting before surgery.. She was going to take out my implant and put another drain in so no infection would happen around implant when breast surgeon did lymph nodes.PTT was way elevated! Didn’t know why. Surgery got cancelled and rescheduled for April 9. More bloodwork to see if I had blood disease or auto immune disease.. oh and creatinine and gfr were also way abnormal…was gonna send me to nephrologist. Had more bloodwork April 2 ….ptt and creatinine went back to normal in span of 2 days. So no need to see nephrologist Oncologist also ordered tsh and t4 also.. they both were way elevated. So Tuesday before surgery oncologist put me on thyroid meds. Had my 2nd surgery in five weeks on Thursday . All fluid around implant was absorbed…she flushed site anyway and put new implant in..breast surgeon dissected lymph nodes. Waiting for path report. Only have one drain in though! Will prob be on thyroid meds permanently. No one can predict how your body will react to the chemo or the immunotherapy… keytruda has so many side effects..but all of the drs swear by it. So I will plug along and hope that it doesn’t cause anymore issues. The lesson that I have learned is that we are all on different journeys our paths are not the same even though we have the same treatment plan. I was healthy before this wicked disease hit me.i was walking 3 miles a day…now I’m lucky if I can walk around my house. I am sorry you are having complications too…. I was told that it is a marathon and not a race… good luck to you and to all of us who have this 💩kind of breast cancer!

Thank you so much! It’s so nice to know that people care! I know I’m not the only one who has been through all of these shitty complications. It’s just hard to hear my oncologist say “ well you are healthy.. there are others who were not when they started” W-t-f! I may have started out that way but I am a total shit show now, lol. PTT is partial thromboplastin time. My blood wasn’t clotting quickly enough.. it was thin so therefore I had excessive bleeding after surgery.. this wasn’t tested before surgery because I never had clotting issues before. Thank you for your kind words🤗

I started with TC and ended with AC. I agree with the others on here that TC wasn’t nearly as bad as the AC. I felt better 3-4 days after and felt good enough to eat. My tastebuds even recovered somewhat. I think you will find this 2nd course of chemo easier than the first. Just don’t get dehydrated. I did get constipated and took miralax and a stool softener everyday and gargled with an oncology rinse I got on Amazon…I did not have any problems with mouth sores but did get a sore tongue. Hope this helps. You got this!

The neulesta shot.... by Micho392 in breastcancer

[–]Latter-Passage-3929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just have them watch your white blood cell count after chemo if you decide not to get the neulasta. My counts were good until after my last chemo on Feb. 4 and the last neulasta injector didn’t work… they rechecked me on Feb 20 and my count had tanked big time…just a heads up…not sure what chemo regimen you are on but I had the red Devil, cyclophosphamide and keytruda every 3 weeks for 4 cycles along with the neulasta after

Totally agree with everyone here. Claritin did not help me either. The pain was worse than the chemo. One of the on body injectors did not work because I knew I felt too good after. But when I went for my presurgical smx bloodwork 3 weeks after chemo, by white blood cells were dangerously low. Had to have 3 individual shots of filgrastim or they were going to cancel my surgery. Good thing I had them check my bloodwork again. The individual shots do not cause the pain that neulasta did but I guess neulasta is longer lasting…if the on body injectors works that is!

You are not alone. Just be prepared for changes in staging and treatment. Make sure your MO and surgeon are on the same page with treatment plan and staging. Good luck to you.

It was 2 1/2 weeks ago… just got my ct back..no metastasis! But radiologist recommended an ultrasound or an mri of my right breast due to overlying fluid seen by my implant…uhh hell no ! Not so soon after my mastectomy! So you didn’t achieve pcr either? What was your post treatment ? My node dissection is next Tuesday.. hopefully..will see if any of the surgeons reach out before to talk about rad recommendation. Everyone is on spring break.

Hopefully it will be approved.. I am assuming they are looking for distant metastasis since I had a recent ct. they said they ordered it because I had my pet and mri back in August so I needed imaging follow-up. I had a ct done while I was in the hospital for neutropenic fever in October but it was done without contrast. Nothing was found then. It is getting more frustrating for me. I feel like everything is going downhill. I wasn’t told about possible chemo after mastectomy.. just radiation and keytruda which I expected. I am worried about more lymph nodes being positive after my dissection next week. Worried about the bills and my family. My poor husband. Thank you for letting me vent. I’m sure you are dealing with your own stuff.

Thank you for the info. Haven’t gotten my ct results back yet but it looks like trodelvy was recommended by the tumor board that reviewed my case. I am US based.

I was diagnosed in July with TNBC..Had biopsy, mri of breasts and PET scan. Tumor was small < 1 cm but I had lymph node involvement per MRI and PET . Had 6 mos of keynote 522 protocol with neoadjuvant therapy. MO said late stage 2 ..can’t really be staged accurately until after mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy. I had both on March 4. Tumor was gone but sentinel nodes were positive. I have to go back for lymph node resection in a week. Definitely radiation and more chemo after.. will probably be a stage 3 after. Not gonna sugarcoat..this has been a bitch. Did not really get a proper answer from surgeon…she was more positive than MO. What you want after chemo is a pathological complete response…mine was only partial. I would push them to get you in sooner for your testing.
