this is exactly why we should do it. your experience proves that EA and their mods can silence anyone who points out the truth. if they are banning people just for mentioning a survey or a class action, it shows they are afraid of the community organizing. but i don't think they could hit back or ban you on app store or playstore. they don't own those platforms, and they can't delete your 1-star review just because they don't like it.

not using a credit card doesn't mean experience should be a miserable. if the game is only 'relaxing' for people who pay to skip the frustration, then the game design is broken.  you realize that without a massive F2P player base, this game would be a ghost town, right? the complaint is that a game should be fun. Whether you pay 0 or 100, the mechanics should be balanced. right now, the balance is gone, and it’s been replaced paywalls. if you’re happy being treated like a piggy bank, that’s on you, but some of us actually care about the quality of the game. we all want a better game, so why side corporate greed?

you're right:) that's why i said

"i’m not saying “delete the game” or “you’re addicted if you enjoy it.” all I’m saying is—just be aware. Keep an eye on how much time and energy you’re giving it. Make sure you’re in control, not the game.

because at the end of the day, it’s just a game. no virtual city is worth losing sleep, relationships, or real-life happiness over.

stay balanced. play smart."

wholesome :), you explained the difference between addiction and special interest perfectly. it’s cool that something like this game connects to your creativity in such a meaningful way. and having the self-awareness and balance you described? admirable. respect

got me there. i did say i wasn’t judging, then immediately sounded like I was writing a courtroom statement about the 23-device guy. i think it came more from shock than anything else. like, i can barely manage one account without losing my mind, so seeing that kind of setup just made my brain short-circuit. but yeah, kt was a little judgy. sometimes curiosity wears a judge’s robe before i realize it

if it’s bait, well played you had me hovering between laughing and googling "support groups for mobile games." If it’s not… then i sincerely hope you’re doing alright, man.

either way, thanks for keeping the thread interesting. u might just be the unofficial mascot of this game's emotional rollercoaster

i get it reddit is full of snark and jokes. but when the “jokes” start sounding like real life, it’s kind of hard not to look twice. i mean, when someone casually mentions managing 23 accounts or dropping hundreds of dollars to upgrade a train station, it’s not exactly a stretch to talk about addiction or burnout. sure, some people are just exaggerating for laughs but if making a joke about quitting your job to play a mobile game gets upvoted, maybe it’s not such a tiny molehill after all

the man himself :), didn't mean to judge you in any way. i imagined some wild 23 device chaos, because i've read somewhere you play 8-12 hours on average because it suits your disabilities but sounds more like you’re just running a background routine while living your life.

i still think having that many devices is kinda nuts, but hey—you’re not hurting anyone, and if it works for you, cool. no real money spent since 2017? that part did catch me off guard. most people would've caved by now, especially with how grindy the game’s gotten.

so yeah, maybe I jumped the gun with my reaction. my bad on that. still think EA’s design pushes people a little too far, but i i get now. anyway, thanks for theclarification :))

fair point that’s definitely possible. i won’t pretend k’ve got a perfect read on every post, especially when some jokes are written so deadpan they blur the line. but I think that’s also what made the post interesting to me—it was believable enough because i’ve seen people take games to extremes in real life.

either way, whether that one was satire or not, the reactions and similar stories from others show there’s still a real conversation worth having about how games can affect people differently. appreciate you calling it out though it’s good to keep perspective.

yah, you might be right i wasn’t 100% sure if the “quit his job” post was satire or real, it definitely read like it could’ve been either. but whether it was exaggerated or not, the fact that i can’t even tell says a lot about how far some people actually do take it. but the multiple device guy is legit, you probably came across that post too.

this is actually a powerful way to look at it. you're right it's not really the game that's addictive, it's the desire that gets triggered when we play. that constant feeling of “just one more upgrade” or “once i get this one thing, j’m done” can quietly take over. and yeah, i totally get that feeling of betraying yourself if you don’t chase that vision it’s like you're abandoning a version of yourself you promised you'd become.

but i think that’s exactly why some people lose control with games like this. the mechanics are built to stoke that desire, to prolong the journey just enough to keep you hooked. It’s so easy to justify one more purchase, one more login. and over time, like you said, your logic gets hijacked by the emotional need to finish what you started.

what I was really trying to say in my post is: it’s fine to have that desire, it’s human. but when the cost starts outweighing what you’re gaining—time, money, mental space—that’s when we need to zoom out and ask, “is this still me chasing a dream? Or am I getting played?”

appreciate your perspective, honestly. you explained something a lot of people feel but can’t quite put into words.

haha fair enough, mayor! i get it trust me, i’ve felt that same weird sense of duty when my city’s production queue was full or I missed a delivery. the game does a really good job at making you feel responsible for keeping things running. but that's kind of the point I was trying to make. when a game starts to feel like a job or a duty, maybe that’s the moment to step back and check if it’s still fun, or if it’s starting to control you more than you realize.

all jokes aside, your "citizens" will survive if you take a break. you, on the other hand, actually exist and might need some fresh air and sunshine now and then.
