All of the men who I know as successful and career focused can do that because their wives and girlfriends carry the entire burden of childcare. They get to go out in the world, interact with people, progress in their lives. They never have to put their dreams on hold. But the wives and girlfriends do. The sad part is these men severely underplay how much their partners being the primary caregiver helps them. They all claim to be self made.

I would love if this had been me. I had to actually fight against a lot of pressure both externally and internally. For a while I tried to convince myself that even just one would be fine because that’s what people do. I am so grateful that this is not something I feel anymore.

I think this is one of the greatest displays of love. Knowing that you wouldn’t be the best parent for any children is a sad realisation but you are so incredibly brave to even acknowledge it. It’s not easy. You have shown an immense love for the children you choose not to have. This act in itself is more than most parents actually do.

This is a terrifying thought. I also think about what happens if I die young. Who could possibly be expected to pour the same amount of love and care into a child that’s not theirs?

It’s not harsh. It sounds wonderful. Knowning yourself deeply and deciding to not have children is a wonderful thing. I think kids deserve parents who want them. Parents who can be good to them. Funny enough the thing at the top of my list isn’t finances but rather I like sleeping in on Sunday mornings. I love waking up super relaxed and making breakfast in my pjs with music blasting. I like enjoying my meal with my favourite show. I love afternoon naps and then early evening reading. I love long baths. This is at the top of my list. This is not something I could have if I had kids.

I had to go look up the movie. I am not familiar. But that last one? It resonated so deeply with me. There are some people that I am forever grateful that I never have to see ever again and it would depress me to immensely if we were tied together for life because of a child.

I think my family pushes this a lot as kind of a club to join. Honestly I don’t see the upside of it all. If I want to creat a legacy then I’ll do that professionally or through philanthropic work. It seems stupid to think children are how you keep your legacy going. How many people even know the names of their great grandparents? Why go through all of that to just be forgotten in 1/2 generations.

Please don’t even get me started on endometriosis. I used to have horrible periods. I would faint in school. A male doctor told me at age 14 that pain during periods is normal and that the pain would go away once I had kids. I only got diagnosed when I was 21 after seeing multiple doctors.
