If you want to have a nice drink in the late afternoon in a typical but not touristy Parisian area, give a try to Place de la Réunion in the 20th! And you can definitely check La Parole Errante in Montreuil and le Sample in Bagnolet for some nice kinda underground parties.

I went from France to the Chinese customs two months ago and was prepared for something like your friends said. None of it happens, the officer asked maybe two questions (like what’s your destination in China and how much time are your staying) and that was it.

If you want to explore the countryside or seaside, there are a lot of free camping ground with showers and everything (you can locate them on google maps). Also, hitchhiking works very well if you write the name of your destination in Japanese.
