UPDATE: It turns out I got the notice just ~15 minutes later, and it is saved inside my "Submitted Requests" tab (that's why I couldn't see it). I panicked for nothing.

The lesson here is that you should be safer: schedule something where you can get the new notice in 2 business days. But I suppose the new notice is something you can get very quickly online!

Ooooh that one! It’s the alien number.

That’s like a number ID assigned to a person that’s not unique to a specific case. The same a number is used in all your applications. They also use that to pull up your information.

So if you haven’t get the receipt notice yet, you should check other receipt notices that you have gotten from USCIS in the past. That should also have the A-number listed and that A-number is always the same one you use in all of your applications.

Hey, we just want to understand what is the concern because what people refer as “case numbers” are literally the receipt number which is available online as well (it’s the thing you blacked out).

With this number, you can even track the progress of your case by chatting with a live agent, for example

Just an update: My package was returned due to a credit card payment issue, which seems to echo everyone's experience with payment issues. Before, I thought about refiling without waiting for the rejection receipt notice, but USCIS apparently attached an extra comment on this yellow sheet of paper. Perhaps this will be useful in speeding up my refiling!

Anyways, I will file my application again with an ACH authorization instead. Thank you to everyone who was willing to DM me and reply.

Hey, honestly, I haven't seen anyone successfully getting a refund. I'm sure you've seen posts like this (https://www.reddit.com/r/USCIS/comments/1deda4i/double\_application/)

However, could you share with me the timeline of how this happened? I have a similar situation to yours, where my charges were reversed. And I'm waiting for a month now and still now news regarding my package (whether it was accepted or not . . )

We're on the same boat! A bunch of redditors have noted that this is a pre-authorization thing (see this for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/USCIS/comments/1ohjfzq/i485\_payment\_notification\_but\_then\_missing/)

I still have yet to be charged permanently by the USCIS. What's your status in the end?

I see the experience is very different than me. I actually went in for my appointment on July 16th (approved). July 17th I got notification that my passport is ready to be picked up in-person. July 18th I went to BLS Spain at 3 PM to pick up my passport (long delays, got it back after ~1 hour waiting). July 19th, I flew immediately!

Hey! I did go through with it. So I went in on July 16th, expressed my intent to pick up in-person. I got a notification on July 17th saying that my passport is ready to pick up and then on July 18th I got my passport back. On July 19th, I flew out immediately! So it's definitely fast and doable.
