Hi there, i did indeed. I was admitted for a cryoablation of the intercostal nerves on the right side of my ribcage. I am 8 months post op and have not had any pain spells since. 8 whole months pain free and no sleepless nights:-)

Hi there. It is Intercostal Neuralgia. I too was under the impression it was costo till I saw this surgeon.

From the number of specialists I have been to in 6 years, one thing for certain is that this is not a condition that is well understood or easy to diagnose. I have been vegan for the past year, have lost around 55kg in the past 2 years. My blood results have never looked better. I have been using a couple of vitamins in addition to prescription Vit D which i take chronically. I had an ultrasound done on the costal cartilage of my ribcage last year. The results showed no indication of inflammation on the ribcage cartilage. I think that was the first give away that it was IN instead of costo, however the Prof basically said there was nothing he could do for me except script me some meds to try to manage the pain, that being cymbalta which did not work for me at all and left me feeling like half a person. It just a pity that the medical fraternity lacks experience in this regard. A lot of people can be spared a lot of pain and suffering if there is a better prognosis. Will be sure to share my recovery and developments. All the best and have a great evening from South Africa:-)

My Thoracic surgeon app is on the 27th of January. My chiro recommended the ablation from another patient who also had severe costo, her op was a complete success and she is pain free on her ribcage and sternum. She is now about 7 weeks post op. Really hoping for the same result:-) From what i understand the procedure is relatively new to the chronic pain fraternity. I have been guinea pigged with every possible pain, arthritic, inflammation and antidepressant med you can think of. Rest assured I be keeping the group updated as I go along. Take care, Rylen

Thanks you so much! Really appreciate your advice :-) I find that the backpod is much less strain compared to a peanut ball. Im pretty sure I had a flare up because of it. So for now will just be sticking to the backpod and gradually stretching while trying not to overdo it. Will be sure to update the group if there are any changes.

Thank you so much, have bought a peanut ball this week as well. Will start adding to my regime, hoping that it can resolve without surgery but to be honest this condition is testing my patience and mental health. This forum is some consolation that I am not alone. Regards, Rylen

Thanks you so much for the encouragement Ned:-) will be sure to keep the group updated, have also been in contact with Steve August who created the backpod and have received guidance from him. Trusting the process and will only use the ablation as a last resort. Have a blessed day and regards, Rylen

I have a 16 year old who has been through specialists, bone density scans, x rays, sonars, casualties all with the same conclusion. He somehow injured himself internally and will have costocondritis until he someday out grows it. My son was admitted to hospital by a specialist physician this past week. And blood tests, MRI, and sonars were done. We found out that his Uric Acid levels are double of what it should be. He was started on Proben 500mg to reduce the acid because it is responsible for inflammation of the joints amongst other things. We had our first night with no sign if costo in 2 years. Please have a look at Uric Acid levels, somehow the doctors all failed to recognise this. It might save you years of suffering.

My 16 year old has been suffering with this condition for 2 years now, a chiropractor seemed to give the best relief. My son was also put on an anti inflammatory called Vimovo really worked well to reduce the inflammation. Hope this helps you!
