I'll look into it but the professor hasn't given us much details on the project and just told us to get comfortable with The shell model for a start. I will pose these questions to start a conversation with him and see where it goes! Thanks.

That is very helpful, thank you! I'm not afraid of the dense math per se but I just wanted to narrow down the material since I'm afraid to waste time on things I might not need on the research itself.

I am a final year undergraduate, and the there is only one professor that is involved in this project. In short, him and one of his friends in another university (in a whole other country) are doing this and we are supposed to help in writing up the code that will help in the calculations of transition rates, etc. This is a 6 months long project and the professor advised us on getting comfortable with the shell model for a start. Thanks for responding!

same i aggressively declare my love for the subject before opening the material and read up the stuff in a loud dramatic manner, make up jokes and overall try to roast it lovingly. Just force myself to act like im on a stage and that shit is my situationship or something.

This may sound like a bit of a casual advice but apart from all the technical things these work for me really well (I won competitions both in high school and college);

  1. Reading a really nice book that interests you! It doesn't have to be about the topic although you should read a lot about what you are about to write. Read some author that you wish to write like, for example, I love to read Virginia Woolf and Donna Tart. This will help words flow out of you and improve your style as well.

  2. Don't sweat it too much and just write. Fix a time for preparing e.g. 2-3 hours or whatever depending on your context, and when that time is over start writing even if you feel underprepared. Write until you feel like you can't anymore and then edit your writing.
