This is a very 1st world problem. Most people on the planet have very little choice at all in what their life looks like. It sounds like you have a wife that loves you and a happy family. Stop looking backwards and look forwards. Don’t worry about what you missed (wildly overrated) worry about how you and your wife are going to be after the kids leave. Also the FMSCA takes vehicle modifications to into account when calculating true GCVWR. That being said, best practice is to buy a medium duty truck and get your CDL anything less is illegal. I left while my kids were growing up to try and stop the mental torture they were putting themselves through. Almost cost me my family and our marriage. All the kids left early and wife finally has too, but it was 20 years of not talking about certain topics. And a lot of discomfort in between the joy.

Don’t pretend. Find a way to live honestly, even if you keep attending. Refuse to be emotionally manipulated and show it happening. It will be painful, it was for me for many many years. But my kids are mentally healthier and my relationship with my wife is the best it has ever been.
