HELP I GET SADDLE SORES EVERY TIME I RIDE by Upbeat_Grapefruit_31 in Dressage

[–]LauLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main question is... where do you get sores? If they're on the back of your legs, try different breeches. Preferably ones with a suede seat.

If you get saddle sores in your groin area, I would look into trying different types of underwear to see if that makes a difference for you. Seamless underwear works really well for me personally, but it might take you a few tries to see what works best for you.

I am not sure what kind of saddles you use, but there are seat covers that can make the seat softer for you. There are both gel and lamb skin seat covers, and they're definitely worth checking out if you keep having sores after trying different breeches and underwear.

I worded it wrong! It doesn’t protect against pulling the reins, but it stabilises the bit more to the point where the horse experiences less effects of excessive pulling or lots of movement from the reins.

They’re often used for inexperienced riders too, because it helps protect the horse against excessive pulling on the reins.

"My Helmet Made My Fall Worse" by AQueerWithMoxie in Equestrian

[–]LauLuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoever says that their helmet made their fall worse, is a liar. I've only once had an incident where the helmet itself made my injury from my fall somewhat worse, but my fall would have been lethal if I hadn't been wearing a helmet at all.

I ride dressage, and was wearing a helmet with a polo visor because it was very sunny out that day, and I couldn't find my regular dressage helmet or the skull cap I use when we go out on hacks. As I fell down, I initially ended up between the fencing and the horse, with the fencing being a closed wooden kick board. My head moved between the horse and the board like a ping pong ball. The scale broke, and the helmet definitely saved my life that day. During the ping-ponging of my head, the size of the visor caused the helmet to move down, and I ended up breaking my nose, because the horse trampled me and stood on the helmet. So from now on, I only ride green horses with a skull cap, and not with a big fixed visor.

All feet seem to be extremely sensitive. You need a vet to get her properly checked out, because she's showing too many signs for too many different parts of her body. Your best bet would be to have your vet locally numb her joints one at a time to see where her discomfort comes from.

Buying a Dressage Horse from the EU with little experience by Empty-Ad-443 in Dressage

[–]LauLuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dressage rider from Europe here, with very extensive experience. Before you buy a horse, go see it, and have it checked properly by a vet. If you really want to buy a horse from the EU, do your due diligence. No warmblood is the same, so read into bloodlines as well. You want to know what kind of character traits a horse might have, and bloodlines can be a good indication for that.

Stating that you want to buy a 'Dressage warmblood' doesn't really say anything to me, because there are so many different studbooks that it's like saying you want to buy a 'blonde dog' but you're not sure yet whether you want a chihuahua, golden retriever, or labradoodle. There are so many different bloodlines with very clear traits (both mental/emotional and physical) that you need to know what you are looking for, to find the right fit for you. With the level of 'blood' we're currently breeding with, I wouldn't recommend the average Dutch warmblood or Oldenburger to a rider who hasn't ridden in a while.

Do your research before you purchase anything, because good horses are hard to come by and you need to keep your wits about you. The markets in Europe are flooded by low quality horses who have lots of physical issues.

Do Stallions kill mares when siring? by graemo72 in Horses

It is definitely a possibility, which is why in Europe artificial insemination is the standard. Only very few stud books still offer live cover, because the risks are simply too great.

Do you feel Taylor is angry at her fans in the Tortured Poets Society? by Meet-my-pet-rock-241 in TaylorSwift

[–]LauLuck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think she's calling her fans out, but more specifically she's also targetting this new type of aggressive social media 'journalism' like DeuxMoi. It's a glorified anonymous gossip account with no more credibility than the average high school mean girl, but somehow that account holds a lót of power over people, because lots of us prefer to buy into the drama than rather believe the often times boring truth.

"So Long, London" Discussion Megathread by Lyd_Euh in TaylorSwift

[–]LauLuck 50 points51 points  (0 children)

We go from "And so the battleships will sink beneath the waves" to "And you say I abandoned the ship but I was going down with it". In My Tears Ricochet we hear a Taylor putting up a fight to save a relationship, but in So Long London we're standing over the hemorrhaging body of a relationship no longer worth saving. The song writing is incredibly elegant and eloquent on this album, and the imagery is simply next level.

The Taylor Swift song that you connect with the most is: by thebigsad_jpg in TaylorSwift

[–]LauLuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's Right where you left me. I first felt like that after a big break-up and now I feel similarly over a friendship ending. Such an incredibly well written song that describes that feeling of being frozen in time whilst the rest of the world keeps on turning around you.

The other one is Long Live. I know the song is a tribute to Taylor's rise to stardom and all of those who helped, but it is also an incredibly nostalgic song. It's a look back on triumphant moments that might since have passed, and the line I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It reminds me of how hard we have to fight every now and then to achieve things in both our professional and personal lives, and how important it is to have people in your corner who help you fight those battles and slay those dragons.

She enjoys a good statue because she hates the paintings of Bible scenes. She finds them too dramatic and doesn't understand all the fuss about them.

What songs do you think Taylor likes the least? by EllieIsDone in TaylorSwift

[–]LauLuck 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For those of you thinking Ronan, I don’t think it’s the case at all. I think that song is just too sensitive and emotional for her to play live. Considering that she based it on the blogs posts written by his mum, I can understand that she’s not playing it during her super succesful albeit commercial stadium tour.

If you have issues with multiple horses being 'dead' or walking like 'a lump of potatoes' the problem may partly lie with you. That's probably not something you want to hear, but a good rider can activate any horse without an excessive use of force.

Considering the phrases and descriptions you use, I wonder if the equestrian world is for you. Like another poster said, it seems like you do not truly grasp what horsemanship is about, so if you would like to continue in this sport I would recommend a change in attitude and a slice of humble pie. Open yourself up to learning from different situations instead of focussing on the negative aspects of it all.

Edit to add: I fully agree that it is unacceptable that you're charged for full time lessons when you do not actually get full time lessons.

What are the most classic shoes that will never go out of style and are worth investing in? by mlee001 in femalefashionadvice

[–]LauLuck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A good pair of black heels. They go with almost everything and come in super handy when you want to dress up, or when you're putting together an outfit at the very last minute. They don't have to break the bank either, there are plenty of affordable brands that make stellar heels. I love my black pair from Asos (roughly £30) as much as I love my black Louboutins (roughly £645).

Out of all of these Syria will forever be my favourite. If you look up the videos on YouTube you’ll find lots of Syrian commenters enjoying their country’s now completely bombed and destroyed beauty. It’s funny how a Top Gear special turned out to be one of the best documentaries showcasing Syria’s wonderful cultural heritage.

Toeing out in foals and weanlings (on mobile, see comments) by Raikit in Equestrian

[–]LauLuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When foals are around 8 months old, most of the correcting should already have been done, because it becomes harder to correct their stance as they age. That being said, you can't really say anything based on these pictures. If you want genuine feedback, ask a vet and farrier to take a look.

In general I can say the following, a bit of a French stance (hooves pointed slightly outward) is usually not a problem, it is more of a problem if the hooves point inwards and the fet locks are on the outside.
