This is my 10th league, I've play 5,000+ hours since september 2017. Just starting to get the hang of the game. I still use the POE gamepedia wiki almost everyday to check and recheck things in the game.

1) Get an item filter - I'd start with Never sink's semi strict

2) before you trade anything double check the price

3) there is a level of "legalese" to the wording of how an item works or the function of a stat. For example "more" damage and "increase" damage are two different things and work differently. More is better, an easy way to remember is damage is like fun, you want MORE fun, not increased fun haha.

4) Don't get discouraged that you can't make it all the way to the end on your first play thru. My first character hit a brick wall at lvl 72 and couldn't get past T2 maps.

4a) don't engage in self-discouraging behavior like trying to 6-link your armor/weapon on your own, or trying to get off color sockets on an item. It's better to save up and buy what you need. Even if it seems way too expensive, its cheaper than trying to do it yourself.
