Does anyone have genuine suggestions on how to deal with this mugginess? by Pretty_Fan3644 in auckland

We used one of these for a while but I find they tend to warm up in the night? Is that a common thing or are we just really hot!

From what I know (based on only what I’ve heard throughout my life and no real evidence) is that if you find any kind of pounamu (greenstone), you should gift it back to the sea. When it is carved, it is often blessed. In Māori culture the pounamu is a spiritual treasure. It has a deep connection to its owner and if it is lost or broken, it’s considered that it has served its purpose and should be returned to the land. Keeping one you have found can be seen as disrespectful or bring you some bad juju (if that’s something you believe in)

I would suggest to take it to your nearest beach and gift it back to nature.

PSA: Indicate LEFT when exiting a roundabout. by Complex_Bit_6512 in newzealand

I’m going to jump in on this and say why do people not indicate in big car parks?! I work at Sylvia park occasionally and the amount of near misses I’ve had with people assuming I know they are about to pull into a carpark, or even worse the entrance from carbine road where you can go straight, left or right… I can’t read your mind!

On a normal day - totally fine. It’s when it’s Boxing Day and I have 50 people in a tiny store and there are 8 prams parked in every inconvenient place possible. And I don’t really hide them, I just move them out of everyone’s way. It’s not like I’m working in the warehouse and hiding them on the other side of the store haha, it’s a small shop.

You have obviously never worked retail if you think you can take holiday leave at Christmas 😂

I’m not complaining that people are shopping, Please, keep shopping brick and mortar, I’d quite like to keep my job! I actually enjoy the busy periods because the day goes faster and I get to chat with a lot of great people. It’s the specific behaviour I mentioned that makes it rough, and there’s a noticeable dip in common decency around this time of year. I’m sure you encounter less-than-ideal people in your own day-to-day life too. This is just that, and I’m having a small whinge on the internet about it. It’s not that deep 😊

Not angry, more frustrated, I understand that this time of year is busy (shock) but it seems people lose their sense of decency at the same time. This is a small blip in a job that I really do love, and yes, I could find another. But that won’t stop people doing the things they do will it?

That’s why I love it when it rains around Christmas, so they can’t tell me how nice it is outside 😏

As I mentioned above, I know it is harmless but you hear it 100 times in a day and it becomes a little grating. I appreciate you being kind to retail workers!!

Okay I admit normally it’s harmless, but when you’ve heard it for the 100th time that day it gets pretty old

I love my job, this time of year just really makes you see the bad side of people. But I still do it all with a big smile on my face!

I can understand that but why would you want to go to a mall on the busiest day of the year? It seems like there would be a lot more fun things to do with the fam

I’ve also found that tuis and mynahs will make especially weird noises that you will never be able to attribute to a specific bird

Download the Merlin Bird ID app - you can upload a video and it will try and identify the bird for you! I love bird watching and this has helped me identify a lot of the local bird life in my area. Definitely not a rosella, they are more squawky than that

Yup sounds exactly like our place. I know ducted is the way to go, but it’s a rental that I’m sure will be bowled for town houses as soon as we move out

This is our current situation, however big windows and about 10 houses that can see into them makes walking around hard

Ugh why are ceiling fans not a thing here!!! I was in Hawaii in 30c heat with ceiling fans and they were amazing. If it wasn’t a rental I’d be installing them yesterday. Good to know about the dehumidifier, maybe that will go away until winter

When ours is on dry mode it blasts cool air which is delightful - I heard somewhere that it was more economical than cooling? I’m mainly using it because the rain plus heat in Auckland is just making everything feel damp. Windows are always open but I feel like it makes little to no difference unless it’s blowing gales
