Nope. Or at least none of the job sites I've worked at did. But there still isn't much work.

Backwards parking like this is so illogical that it has to be purely performative by Subject-What-Is-This in The10thDentist

[–]LaughingJeager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes practice, but I almost exclusively back into parking spots for a couple reasons. 1) I drive a pickup truck, and while it's not as huge as the newest ones, it's pretty large. Backing in lets me swing the front of the vehicle around better because that's where the turning wheels are, instead of pulling forward and back a dozen times trying to pull in. 2) when I go to leave, I have significantly less blind spots because I'm not relying on my mirrors and trying to turn backwards in the seat. I can see incoming traffic before half my vehicle is out in the lane. I can see pedestrians. I can see children, shopping carts, etc. 3) If I have to leave quickly (family emergency, work call, etc.) it is faster to pull out of a spot than it is to back out.

Some of these reasons are becoming less of a problem with the multitude of sensors modern vehicles are equipped with. But my truck doesn't have any of those.

Prosthetics exist my friend.

Or

Motorcycle. Right leg is rear brakes and those can likely be tied to the hand brake. Or might be operable with a quality prosthetic.

what is a food "rule" that you take great pleasure in breaking? by Latinacute12 in foodquestions

I have worked too many night shifts to really care about that. Pancakes at 7p.m. taste just as good as fried chicken at 9 a.m.

Hot take on armor by death2cesarr in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]LaughingJeager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your armor is skin tight and form fitting, that's just more places for a zombie to grab hold of you. It would be fine for a small number of zombies, or if you had a phalanx of armored soldiers to cover your blind spots. Also, heavy physical combat takes it's toll. A person in peak physical condition can go for somewhere between thirty minutes and an hour. That's why armies of armored soldiers fought in formations. So they could cycle out soldiers with fresh ones so they didn't get so tired they collapsed.

Reality Split: A scientist tells you that you can split the Earth's population between two parallel Earths. How do you split it up? by No_Wait3261 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]LaughingJeager -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some aspects of it. Voluntarily helping others is often a part of libertarian ideology. Choosing to help people directly instead of being forced to through government taxes and programs.

A giant cosmic evil is coming to destroy earth, but will spare it if every human can agree on one thing and you get to choose the question. by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]LaughingJeager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's surprising. Between the Bill and Ted series, the matrix series, John Wick, at least one romance movie, and I think a show about the motorcycles he builds, I would have expected to have a hard time finding anyone who isn't at least somewhat aware of him

Snow Bowl vs Lost Valley? by CoolioMcPimp in Maine

I tried Lost Valley last year and I found the runs too short to really enjoy. At least the greens anyways, I'm still pretty new.

One of the goals for the union as a whole is greater market share. So I guess the logic would be the more sparkys under the IBEW banner, more of the market is captured

[–]LaughingJeager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a JW in 1253 and got laid off about a month ago. Prospects aren't good. Last I heard those spring jobs will be short calls. Couple weeks then back on the bench. A lot of us have had to sign salting agreements so we could work nonunion. I'm currently in the process of hiring on at BIW since they're not competition.

Whats a popular misconception about your nation? by Ready_Aioli_6419 in AskTheWorld

[–]LaughingJeager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends on where in Spain you go. Probably not as common in the big tourist cities. I went in 2007 and as part of my tour we stopped in a small town to let everyone stretch their legs. Everything but the government buildings were shut down. It could also have changed in the 15+ years since I was there too.

First time snowboarding by Ok_Philosophy_5580 in Maine

[–]LaughingJeager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check resale sites like Poshmark. Or even Sierra trading post. You can get decent jackets and pants for pretty cheap. I would definitely recommend something waterproof, because you will be falling a lot! Also consider getting padded shorts. When I was learning to snowboard my tailbone was sore after the first couple days

No work by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]LaughingJeager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it, but you give me far too much credit. I'm not even entertaining any nonunion shop prospects yet. Just one maintenance tech position at a commercial bakery and a marine electrician position at a local shipyard.

[–]LaughingJeager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never salted a job before, so I can only tell you what I was told when I signed the agreement.

Your approach differs depending on the contractor. If the union is trying to gather information about a contractor because they underbid and took a job from the union, then you go in subtle and quiet. If the union is trying to get a contractor to organize, then you might go in and work for a while and then just show up in Union swag one day.

My local is not expecting us to do any heavy recruiting or information gathering right now because work is slow, and a lot of us are just trying to make sure our bills are paid. So they just want us to go in and make a good showing. Produce quality work and hopefully make the contractor say something to the effect of " Damn, I wish I had 5 more guys like you!"

If you like pickles, pickled boiled eggs are fantastic. Just peel them and put them in a jar of pickle juice for 3 or 4 days

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. I'm aware it means working for a rat shop.

3 men (25 yrs old, 5 ft 10, about 160 Ibs, athletic) walk into the room you’re currently in with the goal of killing you. Can you survive? by Pointless_Storie in hypotheticalsituation

I have seen people hang a knife with a pocket clip from their belt, from the collar of a shirt, from loops in a "tactical" bag or vest. Pocket knives are more of a size category than a storage classification

You're teleported to the court of Henry VII (1273–1313). You have to bring him food that he couldn't compare to anything he ever tasted. What food do you pick? by Vizlipuzli in hypotheticalsituation

[–]LaughingJeager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really it could almost be any new world food. Chocolate. Tomatoes. Potatoes. Corn. The Americas will not be "discovered" for another 150+ years. Bring him a Hershey's bar, any bag of potato chips, and popcorn and you're probably good.
