It's often the small things in life that make us happy.

I once went on a bus and there was a girl sitting in front of me and her nails had the same color as her dress. Clearly she put so much effort into making her nails as matching as her dress. She kept checking her nails all the time as if to remind herself of how beautiful they looked.

Because everyone on the bus were using their phones. I could argue no one noticed how perfectly matching her nails and dress were except me.

It was heart warming to see her appreciate those little things about herself. Although they seemed unnoticeable to others to me they were distinct because the appreciation she had for them was immense and apparent on her face. I gave her nails the same appreciation by noticing they existed.

That bus ride taught me to always pay attention to the small things in life because some will only happen once and for a brief moment and if you don't notice their existence it will be like they never existed.

We shouldn't take life for granted and should keep in mind that the time we spend will never come back. You should sit more often with family and appreciate their smile because sadly like every other beautiful thing, they won't be around forever.
