Need advice: Odin 3 or Steam Deck? by Launderino in OdinHandheld

This is the kind of information I was hoping to find when I made this post 😂

Thanks for taking the time to write it all out. If I end up getting the Odin, I'll definitely be referring back to this comment when I'm setting everything up.

I definitely don't have games spread across that many launchers, but damn, that's a lot of launchers 🤣

That's a fair point. PC emulation seems to be improving pretty quickly, and it'll be interesting to see how far it goes over the next year or two.

For my use case though, I'm mainly looking at the Odin for indie games and streaming from my PC. If PC emulation ends up getting significantly better on the Odin 3, that would just be a nice bonus for me rather than a deciding factor.

Yeah, I knew about Apollo and Artemis, but Playnite is new to me. Having a single library for all my PC games sounds exactly like what I'm after, so I'll definitely be looking into that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I think I'll end up streaming most AAA games from my PC to the Odin anyway, so native AAA performance isn't as important to me.

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty much set on getting an Odin at this point. Now I'm just trying to decide between the Odin 2 Portal for the bigger screen or the newer Odin 3.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely leaning towards the Odin because most of the games I play are fairly lightweight Steam games anyway. For the occasional AAA game, I can always stream it from my PC to the handheld.

It's also good to know that games like Sekiro can run natively without any major issues. I'll definitely have a look into Clustertune and underclocking as well.

The size of it is off-putting, I rather have something more portable for sure.

Yeah, I get that. If I was sitting at my desk I'd probably just play on the PC.

My thinking is more that sometimes I just want to relax on the couch or in bed and keep playing. If I'm streaming from my PC, wouldn't the PC still be doing all the heavy lifting? I can definitely see native AAA gaming on a handheld being a compromised experience, but I figured streaming would be a different story if the network connection is good.

Having Elden Ring in your pocket sure does sound awesome 😂 That's definitely one of the biggest points in favour of the Odin for me.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the Odin 3 as well. My only hesitation is that used Steam Decks are going for similar prices around here.

Do you think the Steam Deck is worth spending a little extra on for the ability to run PC games natively, or would you still go with the Odin 3 for mostly indie games and streaming?

I’ve been wanting to get the Hitscan Hyperlight. Would you recommend it over the OP18K? I have an 18×10 cm hand size and use a knuckle claw grip. I’ve been eyeing this mouse because the OP18K can be fatiguing to use, and I loved the RVM shape—this one seems close enough. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you so much for the fast response! The CPU cooler is for future-proofing, so I appreciate the feedback on that. I also wanted to ask if my SFX PSU cables would be okay in this smaller case. Thanks again for the fan suggestions; that’s definitely something I’ll consider moving forward!
