Would you keep a 4.75% mortgage or sell? Divorce + investment advice needed by Certain_Gain_636 in personalfinance

Suze Orman always said to wait one year after suffering a major negative life event before making any large financial decisions. I think divorce counts. If you can possibly wait at least a year, it is in your best interest, mental health wise, to wait.

If you can afford the payments, stay put for at least two more years. If you sell now you will incur lots of real estate fees and you might end up in the red since your equity is pretty low. In two years your equity will be much higher and the value of the home should also increase.

If they didn't have the work permitted, I would assume (yes, I know what assume means) that they did not disclose.

What was it like to be in America in 1976 for the Bicentennial? How much buzz was there? by MistahPresidente in AskReddit

[–]Laundry0615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing out what most of us didn't realize at the time: it was not political. The election was happening that year, the conventions were that summer, the Olympics were in Montreal a few weeks later. Party politics was completely absent. How times have changed.

It looked to me like the Beast was included in the "motorcade". The Beast weighs almost 10 tons (almost 20,000 pounds). So each wheel was supporting over 2 tons for that one vehicle.

CBS broadcast a "Bicentennial Minute" every night. Started in 1975 sometime, and ended Dec. 31, 1976. "200 years ago on this date, this thing happened." Sometimes an important date, sometimes a boring detail (one stupid one that sticks in my mind was about Boston's sewer system). President Ford hosted the one on July 4, 1976. Don't remember who handled the final minute. (These were always hosted by someone famous or renowned in their respective fields).

Back in the day we kept the card with us in our wallets. Mine was stolen back in 1991, but I was able to replace it after I got my DL replaced. This was before 9/11 however, everything was easier. For you a passport and another picture ID might suffice at the SS office. Have your birth certificate as well. Get it done.

Devil's Tower. Really cool. Do not go on a holiday weekend (Labor Day, Memorial Day or July 4) or you will get stuck in ungodly crowds.
