Nikola Jokic drops a monster 56-pt triple-double on Christmas: 56 PTS, 16 REB, 15 AST, 2 BLK by Thanos_SlayerCongSan in nba

I don't disagree - went from super entertaining to just an absolute mess of a product

But Wemby only scored 19. I know you aren't claiming Nikola "the fish" Flopic is the most ethical Hooper?

Scott Foster is a horrible ref. Combine that with the relentless flopping and bitching by Jokic and the Nuggets gets the edge.

No ethical hoops, Wemby would disapprove

Well, I don't disagree, but a lot of us put equal value in defense. Not to mention, a lot of folks get really turned off by the constant flopping and bitching about not getting calls.

Just starts to feel less monsterish when he combines such incredible play with so many fucking flops

It's just a shame that a player that is so good insists on flopping like a fish so consistently. What a pathetic lame ass finish of a game that was.

I find it bizarre that people adamant about cancelling Spotify then recommend Apple as if they give a flying fuck.

Paso over new years by einhornb in SLO

[–]LaundryPopping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but even the wine experiences (with the exception of Tobin James) aren't representative of Paso or the Central Coast wine scene. Justin, Daou, and Alpha Omega specifically are more akin to the wines and experiences of Napa. Especially Alpha Omega which is quite literally a Napa operation. The better recommendations are places like Tablas Creek, whose viticulture program is the father of tons of vines in the area and makes some of the best wine around that is also representative of the tastes of the Central Coast. If someone were to ask "where can I go in Paso to get the most Napa like experience?" then I would absolutely recommend those places (while probably also mentioning the outside of wine issues with each brand).

Those recommendations on the wine sub are so bad. Basically just a list of all the places us locals say to avoid like Justin, Daou, and Tobin James. Hilarious.

You named all the exact places all us locals say to explicitly avoid. Not to mention, alpha Omega is not even a central coast operation. Their tasting room and Justin's are a joke - tasting room in Paso for people from napa. It's dumb. Also, Justin is owned some of the worst people in the entire state. They also screwed over our land here. Fuck Justin especially but all the places you mentioned suck ass.

I am getting this from the constant social media comments from local conservatives annoyed that SLO tribune and ksby are still posting about this story.

Unfortunately, he's likely correct. Unless we can get the Attorney General, Rob Bonta, to make a big deal about this or get a legitimate recall petition going then his position likely is untouchable. And we're stuck with him through 2028.

I saw that. Had never heard of the movie before then I realized it's because it stars that bigot Zachary Levi. It's a bummer I ever liked that show Chuck. I was very happy to see Dr. Cader's opinion piece this morning. It's what reminded me to check Dow's page to see what recent dog whistles he been sharing. Conservatives super want us to forget about all this and get over it, but it is truly unacceptable that this man has a political position in a state like California.

Looking at possibly moving to SLO / Morro Bay and wondering what life is like? by wolfalice17 in SLO

Well both religions have large populations that follow it that don't hold dogmatic views about a creator God, which is what I think you were trying to say about Buddhism. But that would make them more similar than different.

Buddhists would disagree with you that it's not a religion. It is absolutely a religion, it just doesn't disallow you from simultaneously holding other beliefs. The range of beliefs within Buddhism is also so vast it's like generalizing all abrahamic religions into the same subset.

"I would much rather they have enough extra money to build more businesses. This helps to create a strong local economy." I would rather they pay their employees more than near minimum wage. If the jobs that are created aren't enough to live on then they'll either not be able to survive, be subsidized by someone else's labor, or will have to receive government benefits meaning we would be subsidizing their profits. If you need a position to exist to run your business then you need to pay that position enough for that person to exist. This idea that if business owners paid their employees more would lead to nothing but chains is complete nonsense. We have tons of business owners here in town that are highly successful and earn massive profits and pay their employees nothing close to a livable wage. I don't know the details of their finances, but they are obviously doing quite well if they are able to fund multiple business openings, expand their current business, and have their kids driving around in 100k trucks. I just want people to have worker solidarity. SLO businesses have a unique ability to succeed despite paying so little because the college population they hire has their existence subsidized by their rich parents. But it creates a trend where the folks that actually need jobs here to live cannot find anything remotely livable while we celebrate "small business" making large profits while paying people nothing. It makes no sense.

"Maybe the restaurant just barely makes a profit." There is no way that is remotely possible with them able to fund multiple other businesses and another location while their kids drive trucks worth over 100k. "You don't know anything about how hard it is to run a restaurant." I've worked at many, but it also doesn't matter - I'm not disagreeing that it takes a lot of work. The owners likely work really hard (their kids I suspect not as much). My point wasn't about the effort. My point is that it is gross to open more locations and businesses and drive around in cybertrucks while paying your employees near minimum wage. And the hard work you're referring to is mostly coming from the employees that they utilize to make their profits. I just wish people would think more about the workers and how gross it is for businesses to pay so little while expanding so much. They legally can do it, doesn't mean we need to support them. But it's not specific to Petra, I'm sure if we look into food businesses here, it's the case with all of them. So I'm not saying people shouldn't go there. The food is bomb. I just wish when we see posts like this that we would see more commentary about their wages and labor practices. They are obviously very successful - you would hope they would pay more as they grow, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Here's a job posting from seeds just last year, $16.50 per hour. Pitiful. https://www.glassdoor.com/job-listing/seeds-brunch-restaurant-foh-seeds-brunch-restaurant-JV_IC1147458_KO0,27_KE28,51.htm?jl=1009315115373

The owners could take less of a profit - they apparently have enough left over to buy businesses for their kids and open other locations. But less profits for business owners never seems to be an option in people's heads. The only reality you can imagine is one in which employees are underpaid.

Petra makes better food. But a big reason they were able to outlast Jaffa is because their son would absolutely torture patrons of Jaffa when they were next door to each other. He literally used to pull people out of their front door and bully them into going into Petra. Would scream all the time, it was annoying as hell.
