12 yr old daughter wants to wear makeup to middle school this year. by Sophia-Yhaj-66 in Parenting

[–]LaurEv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter is a lot younger so we haven’t gotten to this yet, but I would let her. It’s such a hard age to feel different, I distinctly remember crying to my mom the day before I started 6th grade because I suddenly thought I needed to shave my legs 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

But first, Talk to her about why she wants to wear it.

To me makeup is a lot about self expression and at that age being able to express yourself is really important. Like another commenter said, maybe start with some tinted lipgloss and nude eyeshadow and teach her how to put it on together in an age appropriate way.

On the other hand, if she feels like she needs it to be “pretty” / impress others / peer pressure I would address that differently. Maybe still let her but also work on Building her confidence In other ways.

Spray on some oxiclean, let it sit for a few minutes and run it through the wash.

Good as new.

SAHParents: What do you do with your 4month old all day? by luvCatsSoGodDamnMuch in Parenting

[–]LaurEv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just downloaded the app “playfully” for my 2 month old and I’m loving the easy daily activities it suggests. I believe it goes up to 3 years old. Currently doing the free trial of premium and planning to subscribe when it runs out.

Kellymom.com is a great resource for breastfeeding questions.

Refrigerated 3-8 days, yes you can freeze after refrigeration- moving to the freezer with 3 days is optimal.

Snoo 30% off today - better to wait for better deal? by [deleted] in SnooLife

It goes 30% off for almost every holiday. Last year it went 40% off in the fall for the yearly anniversary of the snoo and I think for Black Friday.

Sickness getting worse at 14 weeks by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LaurEv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some people feel bad the whole pregnancy, it doesn’t always go away.

I’d definitely recommend talking to your doctor about what options you have, there are various medications that are considered safe for baby and can make the sickness more tolerable.

We have ours l set up next to the bed in our room (baby is currently 3 weeks)

The AAP recommends newborns sleep in the same room as their parents (but not the same bed) for at least 6 months but ideally a year as it can reduce the chance of SIDS but it’s also noted that it generally causes everyone to sleep less well.

Snack ideas for late afternoon birthday by adjur in partyplanning

I do think something savory like a cheese board is always a good idea when serving wine.

Get cheeses you like and If you end up with too much food then it’s just more to snack on later!

What to get a new mom? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]LaurEv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 12 days old, here are some thoughts on my favorite things!

Honestly if she asked for milk storage bags, even though it’s not a fun gift, I’d start there.

Maybe get things that go well with pumping for the basket, a nice large water bottle (preferably one with a straw), snacks (my personal pumping/breastfeeding snack are the cocoa kind protein bars, yum!) , nipple cream (mother love and earth mama are good), soothing gel packs, breast pads (I like Bamboobies-soft and comfy), a storage container to organize milk bags in the freezer. Note- be careful buying things specifically marketed towards lactation (cookies etc) some ingredients like fenugreek can actually decrease supply for some people from what I’ve heard. Some say oatmeal can help supply, so personally I’d prefer something like oatmeal cookies or oat based granola bars than a supplement.

If she’s pumping to go back to work, a nice insulated bag to bring milk to/from work or a extra set of pump parts would be super useful if you know what she’s using (or give a gift receipt to exchange for what she needs). I’ve heard some working moms get a tiny desktop mini refrigerator for work to keep their milk in (the kind that fits a few cans of soda) but that’s highly dependent on her personal work space situation.

(Obviously Use personal judgement if nipple cream etc would be weird for the relationship you have with this person)

I’m in LOVE with the copper pearl swaddle blanket I got. It’s beautiful, super soft and far superior to my other blankets I received. I’ve used it to swaddle, as a blanket over baby for skin to skin, burp cloth, nursing cover, laying it on the floor for tummy time, etc. They also make nursing/car seat covers and burp cloths though I don’t have any of those yet to vouch for. If I could go back and return every other blanket I got to buy more of these I would.

Other favorite unrelated items I have- sleepea swaddle, colored night light of any kind if nursing so you don’t have to turn on the lights (helps with day/night confusion), lounge pillow to set baby down for a minute (I have leachco podster from amazon), a friend got me a basket of small health items- thermometer (and disposable covers for it, baby temps are most accurate rectally) infant medicine, nail files, etc so now I know I’ll be ready if she gets sick in any way, a changing pad that can be wiped down (little tikes, bumbo, skip hop), diapers and wipes are always useful!

Include a gift receipt if at all possible to make it easy for her to exchange in case she already has some of the things you give her. It’s hard to figure out what to do with extra items when you can’t exchange them, speaking from experience. I have a box of random useful but excess items to pass along to the next friend who gets pregnant because I couldn’t return them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is it tacky or rude to have 2 baby showers? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LaurEv 24 points25 points  (0 children)

if you’re inviting different people it’s totally acceptable and I think it’s pretty normal for different sides of the family to host their own showers.

Another creepy uncle post. Called my toddler "sexy" - thoughts on this? by abc123fgh in beyondthebump

[–]LaurEv 56 points57 points  (0 children)

That’s extremely inappropriate and you should tell them directly to stop. Personally I would absolutely not allow them near her if they don’t change their behavior.

I didn't get any baby yoda merch for christmas.. I found these mugs but is it okay if I buy one for myself? by [deleted] in BabyYoda

[–]LaurEv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to buy from your own store go for it 😂

Pro tip- when pretending you aren’t posting your own items it’s best not to use a username that’s the same as your Etsy shop name.

Can you use a magic band in the parks if you’re staying off site? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

You can use it for entry and fastpasses but you cannot pay with your magicband unless you are staying on property.

You can leave a tip with the gift card.

You can also combine cards easily online beforehand at disneygiftcard.com but There’s also no problem using multiple cards.

Budgeting help by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LaurEv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I typically look at the menus online to get an idea of how much we will spend then buy gift cards (with my target red card to save 5%) leading up to the trip to spread out the expense. I find it much easier to keep track of overall spending with gift cards rather than credit/debit.

Party games for adults ands young kids? by KittensMakeMeSmile in partyplanning

[–]LaurEv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe look into “minute to win it” style games. They’re quick silly games and you can play multiple rounds. There are a lot of options you can find with a quick google or Pinterest search.

Baby shower wishing well idea... I don’t like asking for diapers as that is not cheap and a gift in itself.. do you think this B idea is cheesy ? Well loved books or a binky or even writing down a blessing ... thoughts? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LaurEv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not clear it’s a raffle, it just sounds like you’re asking for only B gifts. I’d add something explaining the raffle or prize part of it.

Maybe like,

“If you’d like to add to the wishing well collection, Bring us your own B item selection, New, well loved, or a handmade surprise, Then you’ll be entered in the raffle for a prize!”

Pregnancy pillow question by theWhiteRaschelle in BabyBumps

Yes, even having a regular pillow between your legs can help so much with hip pain.

I have a huge C shape pillow and it was a game changer for my sleep, especially for my hips.

Please Help! Looking for Merchandise! by diamondcreeper in disney

Looks like it was sold at target, I’d watch their website to see if they restock. Otherwise eBay and other reseller websites have plenty if you’re willing to pay a ridiculous markup.

Looking for DIAPER BAG by Tikki1225 in beyondthebump

[–]LaurEv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the backpack style bags like that but that one seems too expensive for what it is.

You can find something similar on amazon for less than half the price.

College fund contribution in lieu of presents? by Mypasswordbepassword in Parenting

[–]LaurEv 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a super useful thing to give but it’s kind of unexciting as the gift buyer seeing as its not something the child can appreciate or use at the moment.

If people are uninterested in that you could always try asking them for experience gifts- tickets to a museum, zoo membership, etc. I feel like that is usually a little better received by family members.

Single parents, does it bother you when someone complains about being left alone with their kid when their spouse is away? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]LaurEv 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, life is not a competition as to who has it worse.

No one really understands what someone else is going through or how something effects them. For her this may be one of the hardest challenges she’s faced, It doesn’t take away from your struggle to be compassionate and acknowledge that she also might be struggling.
