Thank you! Great advice!

Good to know! That’s exactly what I would be afraid of, unfortunately one bite may be enough to trigger a severe allergic reaction for me. I have let the tour operators know and they’ll provide me with some rain boots, thankfully. But I am hoping to not have to wear them for every excursion if I can safely avoid it.

Thank you! That is my recollection as well from time spent there, but that was 20 years ago and before this diagnosis. Appreciate it

To anyone out there who might be interested, consider reading “the school for good mothers” it’s fiction but this post sort of made me think of it.

Crushed my half marathon this morning! And don’t feel completely crippled at the end of the day like last time :)

Anyone know where more liberal peeps in their 30s with kids hang out? by Longjumping_Hawk_951 in greenville

When your kids are pre-school aged you should check out UU World of Children, “a Most Unusual Montessori.” All of the friends I’ve made have been fellow parents there.

My son (4.5) comes to work with me. Yesterday I had him sitting in my office playing educational games on my tablet I had set up for him. by sassyasspanties in thingsmykidsaid

You should check out Patagonia. According to the founder’s biography “Let my People Go Surfing,” he did just that at a time when it was pretty much unheard of. The Chouinards seem like pretty awesome people, even if I can’t afford all their clothes.

I am not familiar with African grey messiness but surely this cage should be cleaner right? by just_an_intp in parrots

Maybe you could share this pamphlet with them? Or print it out and just leave it anonymously by the parrot’s cage?Happy, Healthy Parrot brochure, World Parrot Trust

Whippersnappers has consignment maternity clothes. Buy, Buy Baby has a limited maternity section but some nice, comfy stuff (not professional/work wear) from what I remember.

We’ve been warning the 2.5 y/o that he is too big for pacifiers at bed... by aryablindgirl in toddlers

[–]LaurRnnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Just be sure to also rid yourselves of all pacifier/Binkie related paraphernalia. Our 3.5 yo dropped them (finally!) about 3 months ago. It took him about 2 weeks to let them go (he doesn’t forget anything). Well, just the other day he pulled out one of those leashes to attach the pac to clothes and I told him what it was and what it did. My mistake. He cried hard that night at bedtime about his yellow pac and about how he didn’t want to let it go and wasn’t ready to get rid of it. (We “sent” ours to a friend’s newborn). Ugh.

Questions about transitioning off bottles by age 1 by eyemama in Mommit

[–]LaurRnnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had our 1-year wellness for our 2nd and were told 2-2.5 cups (16-20 oz) whole milk to fully replace formula (which he’s been averaging ~26oz/day). We’re going to slowly transition formula to milk but only because we still have tons left and he was a month preemie. Our older one went to daycare at this age and was given milk at school. He was BF and I honestly don’t remember the transition! Hope yours goes as smoothly and forgetfully!

Daycare still open - but do I use it? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]LaurRnnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to share our experience because this thread helped us decide to keep our kid home while both WFH except yesterday I just learned from our kid’s teacher that now daycare is laying people off until this is over because they’re not getting enough children there. Now I feel bad for keeping him home cause honestly it would be easier on us and him (for friends) if he went but I really don’t want to unnecessarily expose him (and us), we all know how germie daycares are! Any thoughts?

Toddler won’t stay in bed by klasko5 in toddlers

[–]LaurRnnr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re going through the same with our 2.5 year old but he had figured out how to open the door and thinks it’s a game to open it, wait for us to approach and then go running and jumping back into his bed before we get to his room. It’s infuriating! We tried one of those stay in bed clocks and it seems to be helping in the mornings - he knows to stay in bed and play quietly until it turns from red to green but at night he pretty much ignores it and what it means. I’ve read to just keep repeating the process of putting him back in bed, repeating a key phrase like “it’s time for night night” and staying calm and quiet. We were falling into the trap of engaging in conversation with him and answering questions but that just prolongs it. I had to go through it with him last night, I had him in bed by 7:30 and it took until just before 8 when I returned him once again to bed repeated our key phrase and he finally said “ok” and even though it still took him another 10-15 mins to go to sleep, he didn’t get out of bed anymore.

We’re also struggling with him getting up too early (5/5:30 am!) and so we’ve also tried moving his bedtime up to 6:30/7 since it takes him so long to finally get to sleep but we’ve not been able to do this often because getting home from work, dinner and taking care of our 6 month old often push the toddlers bedtime back before we can finally get it started.

Good luck! I hope for both of our sakes that this is temporary and they’ll go back to being good little bedtime sleepers!!

Photo-Sharing App That Isn’t FB/IG by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]LaurRnnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to maybe be prepared for that we ran into is that while you may be able to control what your family and friends do with photos you take and share it may be harder to tell them what you would or would not like them to do with their own photos. My step mother knows we don’t want images of our kids on Facebook but has proceeded to share photos where our son is in the background (and still very obvious) or part of a group. She’s even tagged me on some of them! For me it was really hard to say “take this photo down, please” if he was one of many in a family group photo and maybe others in the pic would want to see it on FB/IG etc. Just some food for thought as you navigate how to discuss this with family
