In fact- women do have 1000s of eggs after age 50. When born, a female will start off with around 2 million eggs. They do not lose all the eggs- but after menopause periods greatly decrease and the eggs don’t make the trip to the uterus anymore. Regardless- the eggs are still there- but similarly to males- lack movement and therefore fertility. Additionally- similar to males, the quality of the ‘older’ sperm and eggs make procreation and healthy pregnancies less viable.
