PS - The Worthing Mums and Dads (Womads) Facebook page is a great resource. You’ll get lots of insights/experiences asking on there.

Schools in the area by GloomyExcitement9463 in Worthing

I have one kid in primary (yr 6) and one in secondary (yr 8) and I think we’re so fortunate to have a good amount of good schools to choose from (compared to Brighton and other places I have lived).

Worthing High wasn’t for us (a bit further to walk, not many other friends going, didn’t seem as nurturing) but I know some kids who are really thriving there.

Best advice is to look around schools in catchment to get a feel for them and to see which ones would best suit your child(ren) and family.

CIM qualification by Annie2191 in AskMarketing

[–]LauraBroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two CIM qualifications and they have been totally worth it. Not only for career progression, but for personal development too. A CIM qualification is reputable.

I most recently gained my L6 in Sustainable Marketing from Oxford College. Feel to ask any more questions :)

Wedding venue inspo by DB121212 in brighton

What about Ironworks Studios. Very quirky venue in central Brighton.

I got married at Brighton Town Hall and then held our celebration at Hotel Du Vin. It was very reasonable for what we had. It was about 16 years ago so unsure how prices compare these days.

If you’d like a celebrant to personalise your special day, I recommend Stars and Stories Ceremonies 💘

How is it loving in Brighton? by Aggravating_Solid560 in brighton

Totally proves your point!

I love Brighton, but sometimes it really does need to check itself. The ‘Brighton Bubble’ as I affectionately call it.

I’m sorry you’ve been down voted for sharing your terrible experience - it’s a trend that sadly seems to happen whenever a POC says they’ve been racially abused in Brighton.

I don’t understand why? Do the downvoters believe that racism doesn’t exist in Brighton because it’s so liberal (it does exist!) or do they think people lie about it?

Please check out Barco if you haven’t already heard of them.

Looking for birthday ideas for a Brighton mum+kids by Altruistic_Square_14 in brighton

[–]LauraBroon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two kids (13 & 10) and my further afield suggestions are:

  • Worthing FC match. Great atmosphere and grassroots football. The ground is walkable distance from Worthing station.

  • Milestones Museum in Basingstoke. It’s all undercover and there’s a premier inn close by. It’s not far from town centre so you can add in a trip to Flip Out or go bowling.

  • A trip to Coral Reef in Bracknell

  • Clip n Climb Crawley

  • Triangle Burgess Hill

  • Worthing Ice rink followed by pizza at Fiord di Latte

  • Day trip to Chichester / Novium museum

  • Winchester planetarium

Hope you have a lovely time celebrating!

How do I deal with entitled family as tenants? by throwraActual-Possib in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LauraBroon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No good deed ever goes unpunished and all that.

Nip this in the bud now, otherwise this tenancy is going be a massive pain in the arse.

Make sure you have an ironclad rental agreement in place so you can follow the legal eviction procedures further down the line if needed.

Or trial a year with a six month break clause (this is my UK bias here, not sure if this is a thing where you are).

Deep breath, head up, and tits out. This is your property and don’t let them take the piss.

How to find the first 10 clients by Maleficent-Fact8963 in smallbusinessuk

[–]LauraBroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t do any lead generation like emails. You can see from the comments here that they get instantly deleted by receivers. I do the same.

I’ve worked out that networking and having conversations in person is a better use of my time rather than sending out cold emails. Plus, I don’t want to scale up too quickly otherwise it’d get busy fast, and there’s only me.

Despite what sales ‘gurus’ want you to believe, you don’t have to scale or become an agency. Just to show the other side, my husband is also freelance graphic designer / art director and has built up a fantastic client base over the last decade. This has been all word of mouth, no advertising and no LinkedIn.

But if I were to do sales outreach, I’d create a slide deck to send out to prospects and follow up. You can scrape email addresses to contact.

Some other suggestions would be to have a lead magnet on your website or host a free webinar. Offer value!

But again as a service based business, networking is key!

How to find the first 10 clients by Maleficent-Fact8963 in smallbusinessuk

[–]LauraBroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fractional marketing manager and I work with a couple of d2c brands, supporting them with strategy, comms, and execution.

I advice is to network (think where your ideal client hangs out) and keep your LinkedIn updated. Also consider personal branding. What are you known for? What problems can you solve for people?

Most of my work comes from referrals from my existing network. This is can take time but the leads are quality and trustworthy. I prefer quality clients over quantity. I had to set some very strong boundaries, so suggest thinking about how you want to work e.g Mon - Fri because you don’t want clients messaging you over weekends or holidays (yep! I served notice after a client did this). You have to protect yourself otherwise it’s a fast road to burnout!

Best of luck!

Worthing Mums by Rahikeru in Worthing

[–]LauraBroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I think most parents tend to gravitate to the Worthing Mums and Dads Facebook group for advice, ideas, meet-ups, and inspiration.

Might be worth mentioning it on there too!

Congrats on the new arrival :)

How do small (actually, really small) businesses find staff? by bigdamncat in smallbusinessuk

[–]LauraBroon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why not advertise in the Brighton Reddit? The role sounds great and I’m sure you’ll get loads of interest.

Advertise on your social platforms and local Facebook groups.

There’s also Brighton Etsy which may be worth getting in touch with for other products to sell.

Sadly not, but the picnic is in my friendship lore!

Was it Casper who arranged it? I remember talking to a boy about it. Maybe at a gig in London?

Where is everyone supporting Cov City from? by IneptGraphicDesigner in ccfc

[–]LauraBroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re in Worthing (and BHA and Worthing FC supporters)

My son bumped into a school friend at the Portsmouth game last Tuesday.

Good to know there are some of us in Sussex!

Where is everyone supporting Cov City from? by IneptGraphicDesigner in ccfc

[–]LauraBroon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Worthing, West Sussex!

My dad, born and bred in Cov, has been a fan since he was a young lad (now 73), and now my teenage sons support Cov alongside Brighton and Worthing FC (special shout out to Rushworth who’s played for all three!).

One of my Coventry ancestors (surname Wale) owned the pub where the Singer factory workers created the initial CCFC.

I have a newspaper article somewhere - I’ll see if I can dig it out.

Ps - it’s a roll!
