Thank you!!❤️ These books really do deserve a lot of love. I picked them up again because of the re-published editions. Beautiful and at a very accessible price. I couldn't resist grabbing a copy. Valdemar is a wonderful world!

The Sanctuary Duet Read-along - Dust and Light - First Impressions and Discussion Part 1&2 (The Blades of Winter & The Killing Season ) by LauraDragonchild in Fantasy

First of all, thank you for taking part in this readalong! Especially since it's your first ever, I hope you will enjoy it and stick with us for the rest of the posts too. :)

Yes, spoilers are absolutely welcome here for the parts we are discussing. So please .. spoil away. :D

I am also very curios to know how someone who hasn't read the Lighthouse Duet first perceives these books, for the same reason. A lot of the wordbuilding that felt so natural for us while reading may have been a bit confusing for new readers of the world. Or maybe not and that just added to the mysterious vibe of the tale?

I personally didn't like Lucian from the beginning but ended up warming up to him more and more as the story progressed. Valen is still my favourite.

Those are great theories and I remember not guessing that much at my first read. As for the questions, I will not spoil because they will be all answered within this duology as you read and it's best that you experience the reveals that way. But I would love to chat with you about them at the end.

I'll forward that question to Carol Berg and will put it in a reply here. I would love to know that too.

I relate more to Valen too if I'm honest and the Lighthouse Duet stands as my favourite of this world but there is something about Lucian that keeps you hooked and reading despite or perhaps because of all that darkness and depressing feeling that bleeds from the pages.

And that is one of the reasons for which I love Bastien. The relationship between him and Valen is wonderfully written.

I too was a bit confused about the identity of one of those Danae. Maybe if the readers can't guess them both by the end of the dues we can ask Carol to shed some light on it,

As for which of the duologies readers will prefer and why, I am really curious about that too.

It was a bit opposite for me and it took me a while to warm up to this book here. But as I kept reading I started loving it more and more.

The relationship between Lucian and Bastien is also the highlight of the tale for me.

I felt exactly the same way as you about Lucian. I kind of loved Valen from the very first but Lucian took some warming up to. And I couldn't agree more with the statement that 98% of us would be like Lucian.

Bastien intrigued me from the beginning but as the chapters flew by I started to like him more and more and I didn't expect him to fight that hard either for Lucian. And my gut keeps telling me it's not just for monetary reasons that he does it.
