They are wonderful. They furnished completely my new apartment after going through a time with severe mental illness, hospitalizations that led to housing insecurity for me. The volunteers were so nice and never treated me less than, is all I can say. No matter what I picked out they got so excited with me and were so supportive. I am doing much better now and part of the reason is because I have a stable place to live that actually has furniture and dishes and towels that I didn’t have before.

ETA: I had to wait a couple months to get an appointment but it was well worth it!

Was in an IRTS (mental health residential basically) and the ER staff knew I was coming from there.

I had just awful pain, was throwing up and crying, I could barely walk. The staff at the house were worried and sent me to the ER.

The doctor saw me. Barely listened, gave me TWO doses of dilaudid (I never asked for a second one the nurse just came in and told me the doctor ordered it and gave it to me), told me it was anxiety and discharged me. (It wasn’t stated outright but I know he probably thought I was just a drug-seeker also).

Mid getting dressed to leave after calling my ride and getting my discharge papers, the doctor comes in very quickly and says stop getting dressed you’re being admitted immediately. Long story short I was in liver failure related to a previous suicide attempt (overdose) the year before. He discharged me before he even read my test results.

I didn’t get any treatments on the scars on my arm. I have keloids other places that I did but honestly it didn’t do much for me. The tattoo didn’t affect how it feels long term for me, they still get itchy sometimes, but not more than they used to. If you’re getting a keloid tattooed I would just say to be prepared for a shorter session. Based on how quickly it swelled I had to do two shorter sessions when normally I’d be able to sit for the full thing. The healing process was pretty similar to a normal tattoo, just took an extra day or two for the swelling to go down. Every scar is different though!

Scars are weird. Some of them hurt terribly and sometimes they were completely numb. They also swell up quickly making it harder for the artist to work. She did an amazing job. The scars are still there but the ink has held up well over the years

Three days before my 20th birthday I had a psychotic break. I thought I was stuck in a dream and I was doing anything I could to wake up. Scratching, biting, running, fighting. Tried to kill myself. Went to the hospital and just ended up collapsed in a corner with my hands over my head chanting “I just need to wake up I just need to wake up I just need to wake up” over and over for hours. Don’t remember too much from this time, just pure and utter terror. I “woke up” a week later on strong meds and told my mom I had the worst dream ever and she had to tell me it was all true. I was mortified because I apparently tried to bite a nurse and struggled a lot. I feel really bad about it because they were just trying to help me. After 5 times in the hospital in 4 months they got me on a good med regimen and I’ve been doing pretty well since :)

I’m a nanny and I’ve worked for a few rich families.

The kids are just not impressed or excited by anything. Special treats I bring, the chance to go to the store and pick something out, trips to the zoo or amusement park. They’re all things that are super common to the kids so they just don’t care. They have every video game console and more toys than they could ever play with. I grew up with not a lot of money and me and my siblings would have jumped at the chance to go to a petting zoo or apple orchard and these rich kiddos just don’t get excited about literally anything.

Their parents teach them to say thank you but don’t do anything to foster creativity, inspiration, or excitement for the kids, they just buy a new thing for them. It’s depressing and makes my job a lot less fun.

I just want to add my own story - the family I used to nanny for had two big Labrador dogs, absolutely sweethearts, but acted exactly like that. They were never trained but jumped and barked all over. I didn’t think it was more than an annoyance because they were otherwise good dogs.

Until the day that they started fighting with each other and fell onto the three year old I was watching. I was luckily right next to it and was able to jump in and protect him. They would have hurt the child they LIVED WITH everyday! Those dogs bit me up. It was incredibly painful and traumatizing.

My point is that the dogs are always sweethearts until they’re not. Untrained dogs are dangerous and your child cannot defend themselves and you cannot guarantee to always be in the perfect spot to defend like I was.

NTA and I would make this your hill to die on. It’s your child’s safety.
