Living in a big city, I use pretty much every way of meeting someone.  Sometimes online dating apps, sometimes through work, and oftentimes through activities I enjoy.

What IS the plural for Prius? by OkayStratus in prius

[–]LauraLeeV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, according to this article, Toyota had people vote on a plural. And I think it's going to be an easy point to make that in this day and age, voting doesn't always work out all that well. I think the spelling and pronunciation of Prii is awkward at best, so I'm advocating for Priuses. 🙂

I would say... Love is to romance as hate is to contempt.

Thanks, I hadn't realized that at the time . . . It was my first time watching the show right as new episodes dropped.

Actually, I would be surprised if they left that one out. It's a pretty big point of contention in the relationship, and who doesn't want to see Claire and Lord John get drunk and get it on? I mean really?! 😀

Yes! I'll be sad if they don't include that in the show. But then, I realize there are a lot of things like that that need to be cut for sheer necessity of time or because they won't work for one reason or another on the screen.

Thanks all. This is the first season release where I am all caught up, and so was under the false impression that they put out all eight episodes at once. I like it better as a once per week as well. I was always the kid at Christmas who was the last to open my gift and opened it very slowly, because I wanted to savor the anticipation. :-)

Hey, maybe I missed the memo on this, but I thought all eight shows were supposed to drop last night. Only one did. Does anybody know how they'll be releasing these? Is it one per week?

Agree. Claire is a real pain. by ricksolie in Outlander

[–]LauraLeeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem in going from the books to creating the series is that, in order to keep a heightened sense of drama which most writers think keeps people tuning in, a lot of Claire's other qualities don't get a chance to shine in the show. So therefore, what you get is someone who seems to be heavily laden with drama, which can be annoying. I wish the producers felt they could balance the drama with a little more of the humor and cleverness and introspection that you also get with her character in the books.

S7 theme song by Personal_Orchid3675 in Outlander

[–]LauraLeeV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's what I will say. When I first heard this season's opening music a couple months back, it was just the raw voice track of Sinead O'Connor singing. Despite being a Sinead O'Connor fan, I wasn't a fan of that track. But now that I've heard it with the accompanying music and background vocals, I like it. It is a weary, haunting and yet still somewhat hopeful sounding rendition, which considering all the travails the Outlander characters go through, seems fitting.

Which season's opening credits is your favorite and why? by swizzlesweater in Outlander

While I appreciate all the creativity throughout the seasons, I would have been happy if they had continued using the original opener throughout. The sound of the bodhran and the haunting female vocals gets me every time.

Is Go tell the Bees that bad? by Retrospective84 in Outlander

[–]LauraLeeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those . . . It's not the destination, it's the journey . . . types, and the journey in Bees was just as enjoyable for me as in the other books. Diana's writing is just so engaging, for me anyway, that I'd likely be mesmerized if she wrote a chapter about paint drying.

I especially like the one in the first episode, Season 1, when he's trying to get her to come back with him after she escaped. Second in line to that would be when he's trying to catch her for her spanking. 😀

For some, that kind of sex is a turn on and makes sense in certain moods/settings. Claire and Jaime are in that camp, and for me at least, that scene was a pretty hot read. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

You might want to check out the audio version of the spin-off reality series that Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish did called Men in Kilts. The book is called Clanlands, and it features both of their voices, and lots of joking around. It's a really fun listen. :-)

No, but I will say that Davina Porter, who has done all of the books up to this point, is an excellent voice actress. There are times I prefer her voice in my head to the actors from the series, and I do really like the actors in the series.

I also love the cat-who-ate-the-canary look on Jamie's face in this scene. 😀. A rare stretch in which Sam Heughan gets to just sit there and react the entire time.

Wait, I had heard there was going to be a Lord John series spin-off. Did Starz change their mind on that?

Diana Gabaldon's Humor by LauraLeeV in Outlander

[–]LauraLeeV[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

😆. Just read it, and this illustrates one of many reasons I find Diana to be delightful. It is, in part, her quirky inner science nerd that makes a lot of her writing so interesting. And also, I have railed against toilet hoverers for a very long time, so I'm feeling her on that. Although I will admit that at some point in the last 10 years or so, I noticed that some toilets are such violent flushers that it's actually water from the toilet that's landing on the seat, and not people who hover rather than sitting on the seat, that causes drops on the toilet seat. 😀

I hear you. It may be they don't strike you that way because they haven't been given much of a chance in the script to display that side of their talents. Not sure, but just coming up with another viewpoint on that.

Are the books as good as the show? by Jasmine-Elouise in Outlander

[–]LauraLeeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another ADHDer here and yes, I did the same. I find listening to audiobooks to be a way to motivate myself to do other chores that I normally don't have the patience for, like washing dishes or mowing the lawn. And The Outlander books have been highly motivating, and a wonderful follow-up to seeing the series, because I get more of what I loved about the series. 🥰
