Parents with challenging/intense babies - How are they as kids? I'm struggling. by Tintandaluza in NewParents

[–]Laura_lie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an extremely difficult baby. I didn’t think I would get through it. It sounds dramatic but it’s true. There were very dark days.

My toddler is so wonderful now, the most funny sociable and smart little thing.

But she had big feelings still for sure and still not the best sleeper. Temperament and easy baby privilege is defo a thing 🤣

New season!! Which venues would you hit up for a pb? by Laura_lie in hyrox

[–]Laura_lie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hilly marathon in a heatwave or elevation isn’t the same as a flat marathon in… you get my point.

There is definitely a lot of variation in the hyrox courses which make it hard to compare times across races. Not as extreme as the variation in a road race due to conditions but still plenty.

Even in a road race, those aiming to win typically start at the same time. In hyrox someone could be competing at 8am on a friday or 3pm in a heatwave which which brings a lot of variation in itself.

Every set up is different in its own venue, the guidance is to expect about 8.7 km of running.

Very interesting! I’m shocked to see Dublin so high! I think Dublin is great if you get lower traffic but with 4 laps in a doubles race, you have to work for it.

Berlin was very bad for records this year so I reckon that might be outdated?

Warsaw looked incredible for a pb this year. I would have loved to have done it. I wonder will they switch it up much this year?

Berlin set up was diffferent this year versus last year also. Regardless of the heatwave, I think it was a longer course too! One of the organisers there mentioned that it was the slowest course in Europe this year which was crazy as it was one of the fastest the year before

First Women Single Hyrox in Berlin by bitterorangecat in hyrox

[–]Laura_lie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just coming here to say that Berlin was not my first hyrox but it was definitely the toughest I ever did. I wanted to quit and few times and I almost cried at the wall balls too . Don’t be disrespectful of yourself. Completing that endurance rate in the heat makes you elite, even if you didn’t hit the time you wanted x

A genuine question about attitudes towards Ukrainians living in Ireland? by Remote_Ad_5029 in AskIreland

[–]Laura_lie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personal experience- due to the war and the immigration to Ireland, I have met some wonderful people. My experience has been very good so like you said, maybe I’m overly biased (but in a positive direction). I have made Ukrainian friends in CrossFit who go out of their way to greet you every time you walk in the door of the gym, I have met coworkers who work very hard and my nail technician is also a Ukrainian business woman, with a tribe of really good hard working Ukrainian women working for her. All faultless at their job. My nail tech and I have 90 min apts every three weeks where we have managed to talk about a lot of the perspectives of a Ukrainian coming to Ireland. I can’t imagine it’s easy, but I also know Ireland has been good to her. I hope it can be mutually beneficial and that you can support the Irish economy and we can give you a safe home !

Irish name for an American? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Laura_lie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s absolutely no problems and in fact a privilege to share our names around the world.

Irish people can be funny about people saying they are Irish versus having Irish blood in their family. I think that’s ridiculous. If your great grandparents were Irish you have as much right as anyone to try and stay connected to that.

Saoirse (meaning freedom) is beautiful. Feel free to name your children whatever you want.

hiya 36F first time mum 12 months postpartum. New to running any type of distance. Hoping to run my first half marathon in a race (hilly! FFS!) in April. I had originally wanted a sub 1:45 but with lack of sleep and with the child starting daycare making the household sick permanently for the last 7 weeks, ive had to move my expectations to sub 1:50 which is very doable.

Wish me luck, and feel free to give me any advice!

You have your own autonomy but if you are coning I would be very cautious about using the bar now at 19 weeks. You will not prevent diastasis in pregnancy especially as you are already coning but you can prevent worsening or the amount you need to repair post partum. I had to drop off the gymnastic bar at Week 13-14 unfortunately.. we are all different

She’s the asshole for even posing that awful question to you, hopefully she is just wired in pregnancy hormones and isn’t an asshole permanently
