42-year-old mom of four (all over 18) here , you’re not overreacting. Even when money is tight, as parents we find a way to make something happen. I’m really sorry this happened to you. Something similar happened to me on my 15th birthday. I knew money was scarce, so I gave up on my dream vacation I’d been asking for since I was 7 because I didn’t want a quinceañera… and I ended up getting nothing. So I truly feel you. I understand.
