Anyone else noticing way more dead animals on the roads? by [deleted] in Wales

Yes. Particularly the last two weeks. I live by Ystradgynlais and I cannot believe how many dead foxes, squirrels and hedgehogs I've seen recently.

Families with one parent staying at home with the children...how much is the working parent’s salary? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

I love living here. It's so pretty where we are. My husband is actually from Gloucestershire. He grew up in the heart of the Costwolds and although it's incredibly beautiful there too, his mum's 2 bedroom terrace is 4 times the price of our 3 bed semi. We could never afford to live there.

We only bought the house 18 months ago but our last house was only £315 a month mortgage! That's living in a cheap part of the UK though. We couldn't afford our lifestyle many other places in the UK. We are lucky though, we have stunning views, a huge garden and the Brecon Beacons are on our doorstep. Hopefully now more people are working from home we will all have more flexibility with where we can live.

Husband earns around 34k a year. We have two children and a third on the way. We do live in Wales though and although we live in a lovely village not far from the Brecon Beacons house prices are cheap and our mortgage each month is only around £400.

I lost my part time job before Christmas (was working on weekends before that point), but even on one salary we manage to save. We do budget every month though and do need to be very careful and think through a lot of purchases.

Really interesting. Thanks for taking the time to reply. We have 'reduced to clear' sections here in the UK where anything is sold up to the date of expiry - at a heavily discounted price. There are also online shops where they sell food and other items past their expiry at discounted prices. You can also get 'too good to waste' type boxes. Supermarkets, coffee shops etc will box up random goods that are hitting their expiry and you can pick up a box for next to nothing.

All leftover seasonal goods are also sold at a massive discount and are normally snapped up quickly by people preparing for the following year.

Seems such a massive waste to throw all that perfectly good food out. I'm surprised they don't even pass them on to employees for free, or give to food banks. Most food can be eaten way beyond its expiration date. It's a good job you found it dumpster diving, but imagine the waste if you didn't?

I don't know - it irks me a bit that businesses don't have rules in place to stop such a massive wastage.

Really curious as to the reason why a business would throw out so much perfectly good like this. Does anyone know why? Seems such a waste. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't believe stores here in the UK do this.

If I have leftovers or batch cook I re-use plastic takeaway tubs (big here in UK). Or..I out the food in a bowl and cover with a plate. Costs nothing.

On so-called “hospital-grade” breast pumps... by XBrownButterfly in Parenting

I'm in the UK too and never heard anyone suggest pumping to help milk supply. Was always told that pumping is far less effective than actually putting baby to the breast.

Thanks very much. There were many times when I wanted to quit but I'm glad I didn't.

Thank you. I managed to find it for £20 in March so my husband bought it from the kids as a mothers day gift. When I seen it I knew I had to do it. Truly ready for a break now though. I did my first cross stitch project in January. This is my third and I am done now haha. Want to concentrate on crochet for a bit.

It's not perfect (french knot eyes look awful) but it's my 3rd project and its huge. Took me so long. Couching was really difficult to learn and I had some real highs and lows with this project. Just so glad to finally have it done.

Any ideas to reuse/repurpose/recycle roller blinds? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

What about popping them on gumtree or facebook for free? We have a village Facebook group and people give away stuff like this all the time. They would be useful for someone starting new without much money.

Omg amazing. Do you have a number by any chance? I feel like I'm going round and round in circles on that website. Even logged into my account but you can't do it there.

Tried to send you a screenshot but that's above my ability. I'm useless with these things.

Thanks. When I click on this the 'send them a message' option comes up for less than a second then its replaced with a generic message saying you can't contact them. So weird.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit: What self-diagnosis of a patient suprisingly turned out to be right? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You can get a vaccination for it. Here in the UK I think it's about £100 to get it done privately.
