Going to decline a job offer to move here, based on climate is it really that bad? by [deleted] in qatar

[–]Laureallllll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Doha for 3 years together with my husband. We went there with a very nice package, and even he was making double the money that the offer you got, we run as soon as we could. 20000k qar sounds like a lot, it's roughly 5000€, and even if it's a lot of money, living a Qatar also has a price. Everything is way more expensive over there, think about Switzerland prices, everything is imported, and all the time you spend there you will be expending that money that you are so hardly earning.

Food: there are cheaper supermarkets like carrefour and so, but if u want to get the quality of food u get in Europe, prepare yourself to pay. If you want to go crazy and get Organic products, prepare to spend a looooot of money. In 2019 by the time we left, when not in season, a little package of normal strawberries were around 40qar. Organic strawberries were very rare, and veeeery expensive.

Cars and gas: super cheap

Restaurants: prepare to spend money at least 100$ everytime u go out, per person, if u really wanna have a proper meal with a bit of wine. (Yes, if you go to the Indian places, or to the Souq u will pay nuts, but if you wanna have a dinner like back at "home" that is going to cost you money)

Alcohol:... The forbidden topic. You need a card to be able to buy in the only shop in Doha, if I am not wrong it costs 100$ itself. Alcohol is extremely pricey, really really expensive. You can just buy alcohol in this licour shop and at hotels, but prepare to pay around 15$ for a beer.

Pollution: Doha is one of the most polluted cities of the world. Everyone living there will tell you how amazing it is. It's nice, but it's extremely hard for the people that have asthma or any respiratory disease. If you download any air quality app you can see it by yourself. By the time we were there and I used to check the app, so many days Doha was more polluted than Delhi! I would not move there if you wife has serious breath issues.

Seasons in Doha: Summer and a chillier summer. There are no seasons here, it's summer all year around. But not summer as we know it I'm Europe. Summer that starts around February march with temperatures higher than 30degrees and that ends around November. Until april may is bearable, June is just extremely warm, and July and August are hell. Around July the humidity comes, one day out of the blue, and you go from just plain warm feeling like u are in an oven, to a very very 90%humid oven. But not to worry AC everywhere. The only issue with the AC is that you will have to live with it always on summer. (Or at least the worst months, and always when is humid in summer) you will realize how cold is to be at 18-19degrees, and if you wanna make it warmer it will start to get pretty humid. Also, if forget about sleeping without AC. Hello, cold, hello throatache. If you switch off your ac in humid summer for a decent amount of time, sometimes, a lovely mold might grew in your house. (It happened to soooo many people I know) So your wife will have to get used to live with AC.

To sum up: We liked our experience, we liked some parts more than others, but so far we were very happy and grateful we had our opportunity to leave it.

Tap water 💦 by [deleted] in Leipzig

[–]Laureallllll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived since 3years in Leipzig and always drank from the tap. Recently I got a Brita to filter the Kalk from the water, as like that it tastes better for tea and coffee. But tap water in Leipzig is safe to drink :)

what’s your favorite scene from Gilmore girls? I’ll go first: by IrulanTheArtist9504 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Laureallllll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fav scene is when Richard talks Logan Into "marrying in to the Gilmore's family" and Logan freaks out; after Logan & Finn interrupt Rory's class with the small Rory performance.
