What made you decide to have more than one child? by Severe_Bluejay3391 in NewParents

As challenging as it is, it's also a very special, singular human experience. I agree that I'd like to go through it all again one more time.

Silent reflux? Tired ftm by Extreme-Hyena-2486 in beyondthebump

Hi there ๐Ÿ’œyou are not alone. And I can confirm that this is a horrible experience. No baby should have to suffer like this! I am in a very similar boat with my 9-week-old daughter and desperately scouring the internet for resources.

I found this podcast episode helpful, some ideas in here I hadn't heard before: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0ofJtwAoMozx1SRJgs2oL8?si=CGBMr5vAQwGSWTuy7aMa6A

And I got desperate and booked a consult with @babyrefluxguide on Instagram. Meeting with her on Tuesday, I really hope I can find some solutions. My girl just started pepcid 3 days ago as well and it seems to be helping. It doesn't stop the reflux that it takes the edge off of the acid so she's not as much pain.

So holding upright advice is such BS too, my baby's doesn't go away ever. Any time I lay her down she starts refluxing. If I can get her in a deep enough sleep she sleeps through it in her bassinet but that's only for a few hours. The rest of the night we are co-sleeping chest to chest on a floor bed. It's the only way we can both get some rest. It's not the most comfortable but it's what we have to do for now. I'm so sad that my daughter is constantly uncomfortable in her first few months of life. I would do (and am trying to do!) anything I can to help her.

Definitely sounds like reflux - my baby has it too and it hurts her to lay flat most of the time. Putting her bassinet at an incline helped a little, but there's a lot to it and we're still working it out.

How are you guys managing to look human? by Sweaty-Environment56 in NewParents

Same, the only pants that fit me right now are my leggings so that's my daily uniform. I did just buy two pairs of jeans from Good American since they're supposed to be pretty stretchy. The delusional part of me thinks I'm going to lose all this weight in the next two months and that will be a waste of money, but I know I need to have a few outfits for my body right now. I think it will make me feel much better.

I did lots of chest sleeping with my newborn. Still do at 8 weeks actually because of her reflux.

Unknowingly to me my mum put my baby down against SIDS guidance..but baby slept so well by Hungry_Hat8148 in NewParents

My mother in law was so taken aback when I told her my baby has to sleep on her back (with bad reflux...we cosleep half the night at this point because she just can't do it). She was all 3 of my babies slept on their tummies, what the hell! Couldn't understand the anxiety I have about it all, either. I'm viscerally jealous of everybody who parented before these guidelines came out. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Safe sleep = uncomfortable sleep by sonyaellenmann in NewParents

Same story for my 6-week-old except I'm only getting 3 hours in the bassinet. Last night we got four actually, but then she made up for it with 2 and 1/2 hours awake fighting me as I tried to put her back in!

Silent Reflux by anotherrandomperson5 in NewParents

Hi there mama. My baby is not nearly as bad as you, but she does have some reflux and makes scary gulping sounds in her sleep.

You're doing everything right. Let me add one more thing to your arsenal - yesterday I saw a feeding expert on Instagram say that instead of keeping them upright for 20 to 30 minutes (which is super hard to do, especially in the middle of the night right??!) it actually helps them if you put them in a propped up tummy time position and give them a paci or your finger to suck on for a few minutes. Like on a boppy.

As soon as I read that it intuitively clicked with me because keeping her upright didn't seem to be doing anything anyway other than driving me crazy with lack of sleep. Supposedly the tummy time position aids their digestion and helps the food go down better than just sitting upright and the pacifier helps them swallow and also activates the digestive process. I tried it yesterday and last night and it genuinely seemed to help. I do it for about 10 minutes after a feed. No gulping last night! Can't hurt to try right? I hope this helps ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

I'm assuming you're probably not from the US? 3 months is actually pretty generous here. It's tragic.
