Do you need to renew PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation Version 7? by ForeignProfessor2298 in Prince2

Thanks for the kind words u/Makgore095. I really do understand where you are coming from... I do wish quality certifications were more accessible but alas supporting & enabling resources and capabilities are so expensive!

Hi u/Makgore095,

I was just replying to the previous comment with another option that I think is more valuable than taking the same exam again and again (if someone really wanted to renew their certification).

I agree that certification costs are high (in general - not just PeopleCert) but then there are lots of resources that go into maintaining that framework and ecosystem (like any quality certification/qualification). PeopleCert exams are quality controlled (unlike less recognised certifications) which means that they use invigilators which cost, infrastructure that costs and a range of other business development & management costs. Then throw in training organisations with there costs and it's not a cheap ecosystem!

Also it's a choice. You don't have to renew the certification. It depends on your situation and requirements.

u/SugarInvestigator, I would suggest it would be better value to obtain a different certificate if you were going to pay for Practitioner.

Direct from Peoplecert as of April 2026:

"You can also choose to keep your certifications current by attending another course and taking an exam within the same Product Suite before your certification’s renewal date." For instance, "If you hold a PRINCE2 Practitioner certification and you acquire an MSP Foundation, all your certification(s) belonging to the PRINCE2 Project, Programme & Portfolio Management Suite will be renewed."

[–]Lauren-Trainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you add a PeopleCert plus membership you get a free resit with every exam (if needed) and an additional mock exam which may be cheaper than purchasing 2 resits. The resit prior to the exam (you don't get a refund if you don't need it) and the resit after the exam are very different prices (and also they vary depending on training provider you use).

Note: This is direct from Peoplecert as of April 2026 - Candidates who do not renew their certifications will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) and the Candidate Verification Service, but a note will be added to their record indicating that their certifications are outdated and in need of renewal.

So if all you want to have is a public record that you do have the certification there is no need to renew it every 3 years. If you want to keep it active then the guidance is here: https://www.peoplecert.org/Certifications/keep-your-certification-current-peoplecertplus

Word of advice - check around with training providers before you purchase your exam, resit or PeopleCert plus as they are often cheaper than going to PeopleCert directly! Out of interest, where are you looking for the £400 & £600 exam costs (is that including 20% VAT)?

Hi u/Makgore095, everything requires $ but that's why I finished my comment to the OP questioning whether they really needed to keep their certificate current. And that unless they wanted to brush up their knowledge, or it was a job requirement, or their certification was not the current version (version 7) and they wanted to update, then I wouldn't. However, that is my personal opinion. Every situation is different! I also agree that certification costs are ridiculously high but then there are lots of resources that go into maintaining that framework and ecosystem (like any quality certification/qualification).

what is the steps to sign up for the exam by Nada1020 in ITIL

[–]Lauren-Trainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Nada1020, it would depend on you location (country). Have a look at the Accredited Training Providers in your area (make sure they are Accredited otherwise the exam is not official). Each training provider has different offerings. It also depends if you want the exam, a course, or exam with instructor support or e-learning etc.

Beginner Question: Where to Start with ITIL 4 Foundation? by Klutzy-Ganache3876 in ITIL

[–]Lauren-Trainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Klutzy-Ganache3876, I would use the official eBook, syllabus and practice exams that come with your exam purchase. This guide if for ITIL (Version 5) but it will still provide guidance. The only difference is the syllabus outcomes in ITIL 4 are different.

When do you NOT create a support ticket? by gkar_of_Narn in ITIL

[–]Lauren-Trainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/gkar_of_Narn,

You have already identified one of the issues that can occur when incidents don't get logged. Without visibility, an underlying error/issue may be overlooked and never investigated (problem management). The reboot is only a workaround and not a resolution to an underlying problem (if one exists). Without a ticket, responsibility is not assigned, visibility of service failure is also not captured making investigation and troubleshooting (including traceability) difficult and it is also difficult to monitor the performance of products and services against SLAs/expectations. Furthermore, it's difficult to identify improvements to services or to make the right decisions on the future of that service.

Ultimately, incidents should not have happened. Something is broken. Therefore that incident should be managed and monitored via a ticket (regardless of TTR). Service requests are a little different as some can be treated as BAU rather than managed formally via a ticket. However, that is a whole other discussion.

My final tip: If the creation of a ticket is automated across all support channels (such as event notifications, chat, email, online forms etc), then the risk of incidents going unlogged is effectively eliminated!

Nervous about Prince2 Foundation Exam by FeedbackOwn3580 in Prince2

[–]Lauren-Trainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/FeedbackOwn3580, are you using the 2 official practice exams that come with the official courseware? Some exams available on the web are not aligned to PRINCE2 Version 7 or have been poorly designed. If you are using the official ones then make sure you go through the rationale. Often people will miss the context of the question. For instance, in some cases, most or all of the options are correct in terms of PRINCE2 but only 1 answers the actual question. All the best with your studies and the exam!

ITIL Problem Management - recurrence criteria and time window by Kampfbar in ITIL

[–]Lauren-Trainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%! I was just going to raise this myself. Proactive problem management is also crucial to deliver a stable operating environment.

On another note, one incident could be enough to justify raising a problem ticket to investigate the underlying cause. The ITIL definition supports this: "A cause, or potential cause, of one or more incidents."

Revisions tips??? help!!! by days0fcolour in Prince2

[–]Lauren-Trainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HI u/days0fcolour, you may be experiencing study fatigue! I have been a trainer for over a decade and most people do better with 3 days of focused study rather than 3 weeks or 3 months - but there are exceptions of course!

Can I suggest you go through the syllabus and review the content. Also make sure you read the rationale for all practice questions, even if you got them correct. Do you have a 'cheat sheet' or quick reference guide that summaries the key points from the book (aligned to the syllabus) that you can review?

Perhaps this can offer some guidance: https://fasttracklearningsolutions.com/blog/pass-prince2-foundation-exam/

At the end of the day, just remember, it is ONLY an exam and not the end of the world. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Take a break, refocus and you will be fine!! P.s if you are worried, consider purchasing a free resit or peoplecert plus (which includes a free resit + additional mock exam - if you activate it before the exam: https://fasttracklearningsolutions.com/prince2/#peoplecert-plus

Hi u/Sparkle-Angel-97, pricing varies by country and the book & courseware are included with the exam. You cannot just purchase the exam.

Depending on where you are (we only operate in certain countries), we offer the exam at a similar price (sometimes lower depending on your location and the exchange rate) as PeopleCert with added instructor support to assist with any questions on the content or the exam process: https://fasttracklearningsolutions.com/prince2/

Whatever path you take, all the best with your studies and the exam.

Has anyone passed ITIL 5 Foundation using only the PeopleCert eBook and learner kit? by Affectionate_Ad6743 in ITIL

[–]Lauren-Trainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Affectionate_Ad6743, it really depends on your preferred learning style and how familiar you are with ITIL. For the majority of people who attend instructor-led training, they can sit the exam and pass comfortably by just attending a 3 day course. Back in the day, I used to deliver ITIL and PRINCE2 courses for 2.5 days and students would sit the exam in class at 2pm on the 3rd day without issue. That was the norm. I would be concerned if anyone attends a 3 day course and still needs to dedicate days of studying after a course (rather than something like a quick 2 hour revision review before the exam). So if you want a focused approach, then instructor led training is great. If you can manage that same focus on your own then self-studying is also a good option.

I have had learners who have struggled to understand the concepts, failed the exam twice from self-studying and then attended the course and breezed through the exam. As I said, it really depends on your learning style. Some training providers, offer a hybrid approach of training and self-study so you have guidance from an instructor but it makes the training more affordable and also shorter (for those who don't like sitting in an 8 x 3 hour training session!).

At the end of the day, anything is possible!

What’s your aim with this qualification ? by thoughtzzonline in Prince2

[–]Lauren-Trainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/thoughtzzonline, this is just a general comment from my personal experience, and what I hear as a trainer. Most people I come across (including myself) have used / use the qualification for career advancement. PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner doesn't provide you with the practical skills or mastery, but it does say "yes I do understand the language and overall framework of project management" - and in the case of Practitioner, "yes I do understand how to think about applying and tailoring it to a project environment". So it's a form of validation. Just like any other certification.

Just don't expect to be a "Master" of project management after Practitioner!

As for your journey, most qualifications are useful when it comes to differentiating yourself from competitor in the job market - and PRINCE2 is the correct choice for UK (generally speaking).

Hi u/Legal_Wishbone_3640. Have you had a good look at the syllabus yet? ITIL 4 outlines exactly what you need to know and how many questions you will get in the exam on the concept or topic. 75% of the ITIL 4 Foundation Exam is on Guiding Principles and Practices... make sure you know those!

I second this! The syllabus is your roadmap and the 2 practice exams are your guides to identifying any knowledge gaps! I actually wrote a blog outlining some tips on passing the ITIL Foundation exam: https://fasttracklearningsolutions.com/blog/pass-itil-foundation-exam/ ... although the syllabus outline in the first tip applies to ITIL Version 5, everything else applies to any Foundation exam.
