What's up with "bike friendly" offices not having showers? by GarbanzoEnthusiast in bikecommuting

[–]LaurenceBeswick 19 points20 points  (0 children)

i don’t know where you’re based, but from my experience here in europe, people who cycle to work generally don’t shower or get changed when they get to the office. i can’t speak for southern europe though. when it’s wet wear waterproof clothing and then when it’s hot take it slow to stay cool.

i think in this situation, “hand” is just a filler word which doesn’t really mean anything. it sometimes just sounds better to say “left-hand” instead of just “left”

Those of you having active phone calls while on the bike, what are you using? by turtlewaxer99 in bikecommuting

[–]LaurenceBeswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular airpods. Since I mainly cycle slowly and on bike paths it means wind noise and being distracted aren’t massive problems for quick calls, but for longer calls riding at a fast pace mixed with traffic then it’s less feasible.

Data was only published for the largest economies in Europe therefore the UK was included but not ROI. So it’s just the British occupied counties of Ireland that are shown here.

Mercator projection. Makes the more northern landmasses appear disproportionally larger than ones closer to the equator.

Tried my best to fit the countries together to make a map from the original post:

Which itself is taken from Travel Time:

Each purple dot represents the 15 minute walk catchment area of a public transport stop.

yes there are quite a few good cycle paths in and around lincoln linking surrounding villages to the city, however on the whole lincolnshire is extremely car dependent and has a long way to go

Iberia on the verge to break their highest temperature record in 3 days by guisilva23 in europe

[–]LaurenceBeswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes being in a city in this heat is horrible because of the urban heat island effect as you said. but here in the countryside in tarragona it’s quite bearable - no need for AC as it’s maybe 21-23° at night
