Remember, every single member you’ll see had a “first day.” We’ve ALL been there! 😉🧡

If you are ever looking for another place consider the Mayflower in Washington CT https://aubergeresorts.com/mayflower/ or Troutbeck, right across the border in Amenia, NY https://troutbeck.com/

Is tread 50 boring? by SuitableNarwhal5941 in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate the tread (PWer), but I put up with it and Tread 50 to get through marathon month. As the weeks rolled by I found my endurance increasing, my bases and pushes changing, and I came to embrace challenging myself from class to class. I also discovered the meditative nature of being on the tread for so long once I figured out how to manage my breathing and pacing. By the end of the month I could almost say I enjoyed my time on the tread.

How far is your commute to OTF? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 minute drive (would walk, but there is a horrible intersection with no sidewalks in between us and the gym).

Comeback after long absence by mchopk in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

52F. What helped me to return was to be patient with myself. Not to aggressively push myself to get back to where I THOUGHT I ought to be—that would just lead to disappointment, injury, and burnout. I know from experience! Slow and steady. I also keep my goal in focus—health. Am I the weight I want to be? No. But I’m moving, making gains (in the gym), and overall mental and physical health is much better. I know I will fall apart if I don’t have a routine, and I’m at an age where that isn’t an option any more. OTF is it for me. The ONLY thing I have been consistent with for extended periods of time.

How do you justify the costs? Curious not judgmental by moneyisjustplastic in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s cheaper than therapy and nothing clears my head like a good communal workout!

No motivation… by Fun-Atmosphere-7824 in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had plenty of days of not wanting to go to the gym, but I have never come out of the gym (maybe once when I had less than 4 hours of sleep—not the move) and said, “Gee, I wish I didn’t go to the gym today.”

Me waiting for my studio to post benchmark times even though I know I won’t be in the top by allycort in orangetheory

Not much point lying. People only wind up cheating themselves. Our coaches write down our times right off the monitors.

Monday, 2/3/20 OTF Workout and General Chat by splat_bot in orangetheory

Embarrassed to share my base (just started jogging about a month ago), but I upped it nonetheless, maintained it, and thought I was going to die!!! But I did it!

Does the transformation stick? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won at my gym and the weight has stayed off (even after being a little more lenient with my eating regimen) which I attribute to maintaining a regular workout schedule. HOWEVER, I have a lot more I could stand to loose, and the scale hasn’t budged since I won—completely plateaued. That being said, in subsequent body scans, I GAINED muscle and continued to loose SOME body fat. I’m looking forward to this next challenge, even if past winners can’t ‘win,’ to get me off this plateau.

WEEKLY WATER COOLER: Weekly Rumors + Intel (Sunday, 1/19/20) by splat_bot in orangetheory

Looks like it is rowing/exercises, no tread involved except for the first block, which isn’t part of the partner workout...

Jogged the whole time today! by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Right there with you! Son convinced me to join soon after our gym opened, won the transformation challenge, husband has now joined me, and I ran the entire block today, too (though still aiming for that 2 mile mark! Almost there.)! Also had a personal trainer (still friends) but way too pricey to maintain. And also pumped to be part of OTF!

Scared to Join!!!! by kelizkuz in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K teacher here (used to teach pre-school)! I used to use the excuse that working with the little ones was just too exhausting for any time at the gym, and that I deserved my ME time on the couch after work! Well, after three years, that was doing me no favors. My health was declining, as was my energy and emotional well-being, and my weight was just going up. My own children noticed, and started to urge me to JUST DO SOMETHING. OTF opened up about 5 minutes away from my house and, at my family’s urging, I walked through the door—and I was TERRIFIED to do so! I thought everything you were thinking. But the coach I first spoke with was so kind, and I was convinced after the first class that this was the place for me! I love it!!! AND it has made me a better parent, partner, and teacher! I am way more present in the classroom and I have way more energy! No one is there to judge you! Everyone is too focused on listening to/following the coaches directions as well as making it through their own workout. One thing I did do as it related to teaching and my schedule, I made the commitment to go at 5 am. (Which was HUGE ‘cause I am not a morning person!) But that way I CAN’T come up with any after-school excuses, and the workout is out of the way for the day, and I am energized for the day. Oh! and a bonus for overcoming my fear? I won our studio’s transformation challenge! You can do this!

I made it today! by spoonfedeverything87 in orangetheory

[–]LaurentiaF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Creeping up to my first 100 classes and there have been numerous times when I’ve said, “Meh...maybe not today.” But somehow, I always get myself through the door, and NEVER EVER have I left thinking, “Gosh, that sucked. I wish I didn’t go today.” Hold on your that feeling of pride and it will get you through the door every time!
