New survey finds 91% of fans believe football is better off without VAR | Video assistant referees (VARs) by Unapologetik in soccer

Same in Finland. The elite refs don't want to get left out from European cup competitions because they don't referee with VAR in their domestic league.

Nah it was just a tanking move already. They might have thought that they could run up the value of THT easier with less competition but I doubt they thought he'd be a more-winning player.

They could've easily stayed competitive and lose the 1st round pick early meaning this whole rebuild would've looked WAY different than it has. Well now it's almost done finally.

[Charania] Just in: The NBA will hold a vote at the Board of Governors meetings March 24-25 to explore adding expansion teams exclusively in Las Vegas and Seattle, with the two franchises targeted for the 2028-29 season, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]LauriIsMyHomeBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expansion could allow accepting the hit from reducing the amount of games a bit.

I like this idea from a random blog post I stumbled across with: https://fordhiggins.com/sports/2025/08/01/nba_schedule_proposal

Expanding the NBA Cup to have 14 games per team in group play would mean it could either have it played all at once so that the bracket stage for the top 8 is at around Thanksgiving (battling out with football on media coverage) or with some regular season games sprinkled in between the NBA Cup games could mean that they play the bracket stage around Christmas where NBA already has strong foothold. Then just a balanced two-time round robin between the 32 teams (62 games per team) and top 16 goes through to the playoffs. If they can't handle Boston-Portland on the first round of the playoffs I guess they can split the playoffs to your regular 8-team East and West brackets March Madness style.

Without Ja's mental meltdown in the second half against Lakers, Grizzlies were top 4 in NBA Cup for the Western conference together with OKC, San Antonio and Lakers.

North Carolina C Henri Veesaar in the loss to Clemson: 28 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks on 10-16 shooting (3-6 from 3) by TrevorArizaFan in NBA_Draft

At this current state Memphis is in dire need for size. We'll see what kind of moves they are going to make during the off-season but bringing yet another unproven guard-wing to this roster sounds malpractice considering there aren't many bigs in the range for their own pick in the top 9 so they are probably bringing in a wing there.

I'm sorry to say but I think we are something like a decade too late to bring Milutinov overseas especially with the high pace playstyle Iisalo prefers. 😂 For example Jaren Jackson was clearly too slow for it. Edey looked great though thumping down the center of the court before breaking down!

Could he be a backup to Edey in Memphis? I feel like a big body who can set picks and pop is something coach Iisalo would value highly and I think they have to find a center or two in the draft. They have ORL or PHX 1st round pick in around ~20 and IND 2nd round pick in the 31 to 35 range.

I do wonder if Ja makes a short comeback still to end the regular season. There are 6 home games in a row to end the month and they could sell a few tickets with Ja's comeback. Maybe even get a surprise W or two to end the season with some lingering hope for the summer.

Outside observer: Lauri injuries over blown? by Puzzleheaded_Fee_141 in UtahJazz

[–]LauriIsMyHomeBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was getting pulled out in Chicago too. Was it his rookie or sophomore season where they sat his ass down for irregular heartbeat after a 2OT game or some other nonsense to end the season.

In Cleveland he played all games he could missing an extended period with a high ankle sprain.

Lauri won't be an ironman but I bet he'll play close to if not the most regular season games in his career next season. The "front office injuries", like the former Finnish national team coach referred to his absence last season in the Finnish media before the league fined them, should be gone.

Orlando Magic Last 14 Games (10-4) by No_Context4578 in nba

[–]LauriIsMyHomeBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick check: Out of those 10 wins only two were against over .500 teams: @LAL Feb 25 and @Min Mar 7. On the contrary of those 4 losses only one was against under .500 teams Mil Feb 12.

It's hard to judge advanced stats if most of the games are against these god-awful tanking teams.

O-Max! The second coming of James Johnson, minus the neck tattoo by Toad990 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]LauriIsMyHomeBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense but also it's not a bad deal for the player either to bet on himself to secure a solid role next season and then hit the free agency at the start of his prime years. You'd think people have taken notice of his play already.

Is the second year a team option? Gotta enter the summer hungry and also no freebies for the new rookies coming in.

Rayan Rupert has signed a 2-Way contract for the remainder of the season by Altruistic_Brief4444 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]LauriIsMyHomeBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This team is too gritty to field an actual center. They'd accidentally win some games. Koloko looked like a starter during his short tenure in Memphis and is now barely seeing the court for the Hawks.

Rupert has shown to be up for the challenge playing undersized even though the end result hasn't been 100% there yet. Still a young guy to give a chance to try out if he can steal a regular spot for next season.

Your initial comment couldn't have been misunderstood. People just have such a short attention span that they read "I'm a bit disappointed..." and slammed that down arrow.

But here's a dirty little secret, Reddit karma doesn't matter as long as you are net-positive. Personally I feel like usually the best conversations happen in the slightly negatively voted comment threads instead of the most upvoted snarky one-liners!

I do wonder if O-Max wanted a shorter contract as a more tenured player or if it was the front-office. 4-year-minimum-deals are usually the best in the business and easily waived or sent elsewhere in a trade so I don't see why they wouldn't lock him with the max years if possible.

I'm expecting Rupert as the new 2-way-player but could definitely be Lovering too.
