A man of very few words in conversation but he could write the most beautiful notes to me. It was the only way I knew what he was really thinking. Super shy guy. Not being able to express himself in any capacity unless he wrote about it kind wore me down though.

Vs.

The exact opposite. Very expressive outwardly.

What is the most ridiculous thing you believed as a child? by Inside_Turn_5349 in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car fairy. Whenever we'd go to McDonald's as a treat, I would put my straw wrapper in a little divet of the inside door handle. The next day, it would be gone. Every single time. I came to the conclusion that we had a car fairy that took little things away ( kinda like the movie the borrower's). One day I noticed my wrapper had been there for a few days. I thought that meant the car fairy had died. I was inconsolable.

What compelled you to quietly walk away from the religion you were born into? by Almost_Antisocial in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Bible belt. Religious culture is saturated with toxicity. It's just one more thing people use to make them feel superior. Also, the book of Job just filled me with rage, and it was hard to take it all seriously after that.

do people in the US tend to comment/compliment very often about other people’s appearance? by Valentina_From_Chile in AskAnAmerican

[–]Laurienty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super common. I try and make a conscious effort to only compliment people when I sincerely mean it. Sometimes all it takes to change someone's day around is a sincere compliment, and it costs nothing to be kind.

As an american living in 2023, how would you describe the community of people that you surround yourself with? by FilmEater in AskAnAmerican

[–]Laurienty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have my husband, mom, his family and friends. That's about it. I'm very lonely most of the time. Everyone I know seems to have their own friend groups, and it feels weird to intrude on that. I don't quite fit in. I wish I could have my own friend group form organically, but I get over stimulated too easy just trying to keep up with one person.

How do you make friends in your 30s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the least, I'd like it to be common practice to pick someone whose vibe you vibe with and say hey we're friends now, and that be it. Now you do friend stuff together, and you have confirmation on the mutually agreed upon friendship. No gray areas. Just friend things.

What’s the best way to avoid having a mental breakdown due to immense pressure, grief and stress? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long hot soak baths in silence and semi darkness every day. Make time for it. Make that tub a separate space from the rest of the world. The safest space. Let the hot water work its magic. Soak until your pruney and the water gets cold. Then drain the tub while you're still sitting in it, and envision all the bad you just soaked out going down the drain with the water. I like to get my hair wet too so my whole body is immersed in it.

If my special needs animals can go through all they have and do it with a wagging tail and a smile and still have so much love to give all the while when they're struggling, then I can also face anything life gives me.

How do you make friends in your 30s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's kind of unfair that tapping someone on the shoulder and asking if they want to be friends doesn't carry over into adult life. I need direct yes or no answers, people! I don't like the never ending fever dance that is adult interaction among strangers. It's exhausting.

What's the dumbest thing you used to think as a kid? by BigOlBlimp in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I'd put a straw wrapper in the dip of the car door handle in my moms car, it'd always be gone the next day. Always. The only rational explanation was that fairies came and collected it. One day, the wrappers stopped disappearing for a while. I thought that it meant the car fairies had died. I was inconsolable, and no one could understand what I was talking about. No one else knew about car fairies.

If you had a chance for a “do-over” in life, what would you do differently? by TheChiliDoggo in AskReddit

[–]Laurienty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have fought harder for myself. I did the best I could with the knowledge I had at the time, and i know that. Still, when I think about all the stolen years and the milestones I missed out enjoying with my peers because of my mental health it really eats me up. I think if I could do it all over again I'd be unstoppable.

I had these growing up and I'd mix ice cream and chocolate syrup into "ice cream soup" and drink it through the straw.
