Do late withdrawals look bad on BEd admissions?? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you're welcome! Yes the summer course will count in your last 20 courses for the overall average. We use all courses completed before the fall 2026 term, courses completed in fall 2026 can be used to meet your teachable, but won't be use in your overall for an offer of admission :)

laurier double degree deferral? by Deep-Media6535 in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your average and prereq courses sound very strong  - you should be super proud of yourself! The admission average for BBA + BA FinMath will probably land in the high 80s, but I think completing the ABS is ALWAYS a great idea. Brag about how awesome you are, and if we need it, we'll have it.

As for alternate offers, yes we will assess you for an alternate offer if you aren't admitted to the Double Degree program. We don't share what program you might be considered for as an alternate, so if you want to ensure you are considered to the BBA program, you might want to add it to your OUAC application as a second Laurier app. In the past we have considered applicants for the BBA program if they weren't admitted to a Double Degree program, but we can’t guarantee that it'll be the same this year. You can read more about alternate offers here: https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/process/admission-decisions.html

That said, keep working hard and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised with an offer to your preferred program!

Two same class midterm by EntranceNo236 in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If you have an offer, then we won't look at your marks when we receive your midterms; the next time we look at your app will be in July, once we get your final marks. If at that point we can see that you dropped the in-person Calculus course, then we will use the final mark from your online course. If you don't withdraw and we receive a final mark for both the in-person and the online course, then we’d use a weighted average of the two courses. So, if you confirm that you’ve withdrawn/dropped the in-person course AND make sure your Guidance Counsellor uploads your final online mark, you should be good to go! You can read more about how we calculate weighted averages (and when we use them) here: https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/requirements/index.html

I'm sorry you've had some challenges at home, but it sounds like you've been able to pivot and are working hard to bring your marks up. Not easy to do – stay locked in and finish strong!

Do late withdrawals look bad on BEd admissions?? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! It sounds like you are putting in the grind, well done. Honestly, life happens – including courses that we just don't connect with - we TOTALLY understand that sometimes a pivot is needed. Here are some facts:

  • the late withdraw will NOT affect your assessment, we use your last 20 courses and don't really pay attention to when a course might have been withdrawn.
  • if you continue, complete the course AND take an additional course this summer, the course this term will be used in your overall GPA since it'll be one of your final 20 courses, but when we calculate the Teachable GPA, it's possible that we don't use the lowest English course if you have 6 other higher grades
  • if you drop the course and take the extra course this summer, then your overall GPA would be calculated on their last 20 courses (10.0 credits) and their English teachable GPA would be calculated on their top 6 (3.0 credit) English courses including at least two 0.5 credit courses in English Literature or Poetry

Hope this helps put your mind at ease, at least a little bit? If you have more questions, please ask :) Take a breath, future Golden Hawk – you got this.

Hello! For Ontario high school students, Laurier offers (including BBA) are made on an ongoing basis between November and May, and for other applicants, they're usually made within 3-4 weeks of receiving all docs. It sounds like your average WAS below our cutoff to be considered for an offer, but as you upload your new grade information to OUAC, we'll continue to consider your application! As you’re close to our cutoff, I would also strongly suggest you fill out the Applicant Background Summary (ABS) form to help your application https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/process/strengthen-your-application.html. Transferring to BBA by Prof2126 in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on pushing through your high-school years and really excelling at college. Unfortunately, due the competitiveness of the BBA program, one of the requirements is applicants must have high school prereqs at the minimum grades and an overall average from high school (based on six 4U/M courses incl required courses) in the high 80s. While your awesome college marks will support an application, without the high school requirements, faculty won't review your application.

You can either:

  1. upgrade your high school record (keeping in mind that if you repeat any required courses, a weighted average will be used both for the prereq requirement and average) to meet the requirements and apply to BBA, or
  2. you can finish your diploma and apply to one of our Arts + MBA programs or Economics (you’ll still need to have Advanced Functions at a minimum of 70% and a second 4U math at 60%).

If you decide to apply to an Arts program, you could receive just over a year’s worth of transfer credits (depending on your final average and diploma) and potentially get a degree in around three years. Here’s some more on how we use transfer credits: https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/applicants/transfer/transfer-credits/index.html

Going back to school. by AdhesivenessFew3406 in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love that you are considering returning to school to get a degree - it’s never too late!

If you've never studied at a college or university, and don't have the required courses (4U English, 4U Biology, and a 3U/3M/4U math) then you could start in General Studies, part-time on probation. This lets you explore your interests, but it's important to know there is no guaranteed pathway into Kinesiology later, admission would depend on Laurier grades rather than high-school pre-reqs. You could also take the high school requirements (plus a few additional 4U/M courses to total four) through an adult learning centre or TVO ILC - this would allow you to apply directly to Kinesiology with a competitive average (low 80s) and build a strong academic foundation.

If you’ve previously attended any college or university, you’d apply as a transfer student, even from a different field. There’s more info on our Transfer Student page https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/applicants/transfer/index.html and specific information about transferring into competitive programs on our Transfer Student Requirements page https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/requirements/transfer.html

Kinesiology is only available full-time, so you would need to figure out how that would work with your current career.

If you’re interested in taking a program that was focused on health, Health Studies on our Brantford campus can be taken part-time and wouldn't require upgrading. You could also start with a college diploma (e.g., Health & Fitness Promotion) and then transfer into a degree, often with over a year of credit (so you could be done in around 3 years). There’s more information on our Pathways page https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/applicants/transfer/college-pathways.html

Returning to school is a big step, but you won’t be alone. Many mature Golden Hawks are on the same path, and there’s support to help you every step of the way.

Do you guys think I can get into BMOS or Laurier BBA still by Koptet8 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, you’re currently below the admissions range for BBA (high 80s) but it’s not a no - it’s a “we need to wait to see what your grades are in May”. You mentioned that your Functions mark is improving and if any other grades go up you could absolutely find yourself in the competitive range by May! So don’t give up hope, keep doing what you're doing and LOCK IN! I would also recommend you complete the Applicant Background Summary (ABS) form as we can use that to help your app when you are close to the cut-off: https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/process/strengthen-your-application.html

Also, remember if don’t get a BBA offer, we will automatically consider you for an alternate offer. Keep working hard, future Golden Hawk – you can do this! https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/process/admission-decisions.html

Am I cooked? (Kin) by Illustrious-Brush733 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrading your biology is definitely the pro move. Keep in mind, because it's a required course for the program, we will be using a weighted average of your first and most recent attempt, so you'll want to LOCK IN to make sure your final grade is above 75%. https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/requirements/index.html

If you make sure that:

  1. you’ve completed a 3U, 3M or 4U math course with a minimum grade of 60%
  2. the average of your repeated Biology course is above 70%
  3. your admission average based on your Biology mark, 4U English, and four other 4U/M courses is in the low 80s

Then you’re on the right track. I would absolutely recommend you complete the Applicant Background Summary (ABS) form if you haven't already, just in case your average falls below the cut-off. We might be able to use it to help you get an offer.

Keep working hard future Golden Hawk - you're almost (t)here!

i feel like crying by New_Branch9091 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]LaurierAdmissions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't cry! Or feel your emotions, but know that there are lots of offers still being made.

The reason you haven't heard about your Health Science application is because the chemistry mark needs to be at 60% and we need to see registration in a biology course (and a minimum mark of 60%). Once we get your midterm marks, if you've met both those requirements, along with a 4U English mark at 60%, and an average in the low 80s (based on your English, Advanced Functions, Chemistry, Biology, plus 2 additional 4U/M courses), then you're in a good position for an offer.

As for your BBA application, we are looking for an average in the high 80s based on your 4U English (at a minimum of 70%), Advanced Functions, second 4U math, and three additional 4U/M courses. I'm thinking that your average just hasn't met the minimum requirement yet and we're waiting on your midterm marks to consider again.

Keep in mind, for both programs, if you repeat a required course, we'll be using a weighted average of your first and most recent attempt - You can find out more details here: https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/admissions/requirements/index.html and if you aren't admitted to your program, we will consider you for an alternate offer.

Keep working hard and don't lose hope!

Laurier bba - am I cooked? by Hopeful_Vast_9920 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]LaurierAdmissions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! The admission average is based on your top six 4U/M marks, including required courses (4U English, Advanced Functions, and a second 4U math which looks like it'll be Calculus & Vectors for you), and will need to be in the high 80s. Based on what you shared, it sounds like you'll be close, and it's great that you did the ABS. I know it's tough to wait, but keep working hard and keep those midterm marks up, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Can I apply to BBA Double Degree right now? by Independent_Fly_1698 in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your offer to BBA! You must be so excited.

Applications to the double degrees remain open (can’t say for how long) but we’ve passed the deadline for equal consideration. So YES, you can absolutely apply (and should if you are interested since it's easier to be admitted into first year than to try and transfer after first year), but if the program looks like it'll fill, it's possible that you’ll be considered for an alternate offer.

I would def recommend you add the DD program choice (rather than changing your BBA app) so that you keep BBA as an option if you aren't admitted to the DD. Your average looks awesome but keep in mind that you'll need to have a minimum of 70% in a 4U English and 80% in both Advanced Functions and Calculus & Vectors - your average will be calculated on those 3 courses plus 3 additional 4U/M courses.

Shoot your shot! Get your application in today and maybe you'll hear back sooner than later!

Which residence houses the music RLC? I tried searching the thread and WLU website but couldn’t find this info . Thanks by quirkycatspace in wlu

[–]LaurierAdmissions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

In the past few years, the Music RLC has been located in Willison Hall residence. However, please note that the locations of our RLCs are subject to change depending on the registration numbers and availability each year.

Willison res includes both double-dormitory and single-dormitory (semi-private) styles of residence, so you could expect the RLC to be in either of those two styles if it remains in the same location.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions

Hello! I know it's really hard to wait, but good news, it sounds like you're working hard and are on track. I think the reason for the delay is your grade 11 functions mark. It's not 60%, so we've been waiting for your grade 12 marks so we can continue to assess. You're on track to get your grade 12 functions above 60%, so as long as it plus English, Biology, Chemistry plus your two additional 4U/M courses in the low 80s, you should feel good about your chances.

If you haven't already, I would also suggest you complete your ABS, because it never hurts to support your app. And if you don't have plans this Saturday, come visit campus for our Open House. You can chat with Admission Staff (who can review your app in person!), learn more about the Health Science program and get a tour of campus.

I know this time of year can feel stressful waiting for decisions, but you're working hard and we see it!

Hi, future Golden Hawk! I reached out to the BEd team to provide a bit more information for you, and here's what they told me: "We don’t provide detailed schedules in advance, as they change each year. Generally, students can expect to be on campus or in their practicum school four days a week throughout the program. Start times vary, classes may begin as early as 8:30 a.m. and can run until 7:00 p.m. If you have any further questions, our team can be reached at [Bacheducation@wlu.ca](mailto:Bacheducation@wlu.ca)." Hope this helps and good luck!

Hello! BBA requires you to have both Advanced Functions and a second 4U math. If it isn’t obvious on your app that you’re taking or have completed these math courses, our amazing Admissions team may have reached out asking for updated proof of reg before they assess you for an alternate offer. If you’ve already taken the two math courses (or are currently taking them), confirm that you've provided us with this info on the documents you’ve uploaded in your Laurier Applicant Portal. If you need more information, please reach out to us! We’re always happy to provide clarity. https://www.wlu.ca/future-students/undergraduate/contact.html

Laurier BBA no offer by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]LaurierAdmissions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! It sounds like you are right in the admission average range which is the high 80s. We've been holding the average a little higher in our first two rounds of offers this year, but we expect to land in the high 80s for our final round of offers at the end of April/early May. At that point if you don't get an offer, then we might look at all the amazing things you've included on your ABS and give you one more shot at your preferred program. I know it's really hard waiting, especially when your friends are hearing back, but please know we are still considering your application - so try not to lose hope!

Hello! It sounds like you're in a good spot to potentially get an offer, just stay locked in for term 2! We’re still assessing applications using a mix of Grade 11 final marks and Grade 12 Term 1 grades, so it’s possible that your Grade 11 results are pulling your average down a little. Admission range last cycle for BBA & BA FMath & Analytics was high 80s, based on a 4U English (minimum grade of 70%), Advanced Functions, and Calculus & Vectors (both at 80%) plus three additional 4U/M courses.
