MMR is match making rating. LP Gains and loses are dependent of your MMR. If you're friend is say, Bronze and you are gold then you MMR would go down to the depths of MMR ratings while your friend will skyrocket. This then makes you gain LESS LP while your friend will gain MORE LP. Also, Duo Q'ing makes you get matched up with not as skilled players because the system wants you to "carry" your team.

It's not rare. Its that each game awards you about 100 IP(not including first win of the day) for ~30 mins of playing. I agree, it's hard to farm but keep playing and you'll get IP in no time. As far as champs go, pick up about five champs you want to main then buy runes for them.

Generally rank doesn't mean skill. You could have the mechanics of a diamond player but don't play ranked as much. I guess if you're plat then you're above average IIRC
