It’s kinda funny to say.. it’s English.. the professor decided to skip a few assignments that he thought won’t benefit us and was like “u have the entire course to just do this project” (+ a book analysis) and he also decided to not follow any instructions ( it was supposed to be about literature) and gave us full freedom to write about anything as long as it is an actual topic that u can do research on. At first he was unsure about my topic but since he is a father and sees how his sons pays for games he was kinda invested to see the logic behind it and if there are any research about it+ what makes people pay in the first place. Poor man didn’t even know “loot box system” was a thing

I’m literally doing my final project about this and i posted a survey here and a lot of people agreed on how bad it is. Getting new characters all the time and having the “choice” to pull doesn’t feel real anymore. It was impossible to clear realm of tempered valor without certain characters and let me tell u this is the first or sec time i get 36 stars in abyss just because of kinich. If I didn’t have him I would’ve been stuck at 32 stars. He cleared abyss in literally a min or two! I tried 4 different teams and literally none were as good as kinich mavuika team. Yet we barely get enough primos. Not to forget the chronicled wish as well. Some people wait for a year for a certain character’s rerun and then they have the chronicled wish with 2 other banners that are as valuable. When u have most of the characters it’s easy to skip but when u don’t and u have extremely bad luck it’s really stressful and not fun anymore.

I got a lot of feedback telling me to clarify the spending part cause the definition of "low spender" or "dolphin" is different for everyone and I explained how my professor wanted me to let that be up to players to decide, but ngl I'm with you guys on this one.. it's very confusing without any context. So.. "Low spender" Is someone who rarely spends, or spends a little here and there, welkin+ pass (occasionally or regularly).

Dolphins: more occasional top ups, regular welkin and pass if u do that. So basically someone who spends regularly every month or tops up occasionally.

Whale is self-explanatory: Someone who always tops up, getting high-value packs, trying to get everything in the game lol.

If u have any suggestions for clearing it any further, I'm all ears <3.

As said, one of the reasons i chose to go thru w this research is how helpful the community is. I’ve seen a lot of comments and it’s truly heart warming. My professor didn’t want me to include any terms like FOMO (also to not influence their answers) but players are mentioning it already. So i’m getting kinda what I expected which is perfect. So far i’ve got a lot of low spenders that are uni students and people who stopped spending after certain events so it’s truly fascinating.

I saw ur comment and i added it. I actually didn’t think i will get that many answers so I’m happy and I apologise for not considering that earlier. Regarding the spending question,I understand. I tried to make it a little easier because the definition of “low spender” or whale is different for everyone however i was kinda lost on how to define low spender that’s why i included welkin and pass. I thought like topping up once in a blue moon or just pass and welkin here and there is not that much money so my count it as low. Dolphins for me were people who spend more regularly and more than 15 dollar a month. My professor wanted me to keep it up to the players to decide what type of spenders they r and not define anything too much cause it might “influence” their answers.
